Kai Garold Workman was born September 15, 2006, six weeks earlier than his due date. The doctors were baffled by this little human and told his parents the day he was born that he would not survive the night. Every single day, for almost 15 years, Kai’s life has been a blessing and a gift. He survived grade four brain bleeds, countless surgeries and hospitalizations, including his kidney transplant in 2016. He lived with a hearing loss, left sided weakness and contractures, not being able to verbally communicate his wants or his pain, and a body that wouldn’t do what he wanted. Yet through it all, he has smiled and sang. He shared his love of music with everyone that would listen. His music tastes ranged from primary songs, to heavy metal, to opera, to veggie tales, and everything in between. And he never passed up the opportunity to sing happy birthday to himself. He loved to throw rocks in the river, he loved to watch sports, he loved to blow bubbles, read books (in his own way), go to class and see his teachers and friends, and he loved his family. Kai’s beautiful spirit never really fit in his tiny body that didn’t seem to work right, but he was never a burden. He was a perfect soul and this world was brighter with him in it. On Friday night, July 16th, Kai had finally had enough and passed away at home in the arms of his mom, surrounded by loved ones and angels. We will always remember and love our Kai-guy.
