Kenneth Brent Keate passed away at his home in Arvada, Colorado on April 25, 2024. He was born on October 7, 1948 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Kenneth F. and Phyllis A. Keate.
Known as Brent throughout his life, he was a kind and gentle soul who knew how to work hard and loved people and life! He graduated from Skyline High School and then attended and graduated from the University of Utah with a degree in Physics, all the while working for his father painting for Keate Co. Painters. In 1969, he married Linda Back and had a daughter, Hilary True, with whom he maintained a close and loving relationship throughout his life.
After his divorce from Linda, he reconnected with Terrie Stone, a former high school sweetheart, and they were married in Salt Lake City, Utah in 1981. They had a very devoted and loving marriage and were inseparable. They loved hiking in the mountains, as well as skiing, cross-country skiing, and anything in the outdoors in general.
Brent and Terrie moved to Arvada Colorado in 1987. Brent then worked at Rocky Flats and later at the University of Colorado as a Radiation Safety Specialist.
Their marriage lasted for 35 years until Terrie’s passing in 2017 from Alzheimer’s. Terrie’s death devasted Brent, but he continued on without her caring for his daughter, his grandson and his great grandson, as well as keeping up with his siblings, spending time with his dear friends Brad and Debbie Denton and their two boys, Owen and Ryan, who called him “Grandpa,” going to his monthly Widower’s support group, and taking care of his beloved cats. He also was always working on many projects around the house.
Brent’s passing leaves a hole in the lives of family and friends that enjoyed his company and loved him dearly. He liked to have long, intellectual conversations about politics, history or the hottest topic of the day with anyone who would listen!
Brent is preceded in death by his loving parents and his dear wife Terrie. He is survived by his daughter, Hilary True Keate, his grandson Christopher (Abby) and his great grandson Jameson. He is also survived by his siblings Barry (Nancy) Keate, Debbie (Stephen) Turner, Toni (Aaron) Kasper and Wendy (Mike) Chieffo, who all claim that Brent was their Mother’s favorite child!!
A funeral service for Brent will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2024 at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 10600 So. 1950 E., Sandy, Utah, at 11:00 a.m., with a Visitation at 10:30 prior. To watch the services remotely via Zoom, please go to Brent's obituary on larkinmortuary.com where a Zoom link is provided.
