Joy Lynn Smith was born September 20, 1944, to Louis and Sarah A Woolsey Smith, she was the first of their 5 children. On Mach 6,2021 she was welcomed back to the presence her Heavenly father and the many family and friends that had gone before her.

Joy grew up a member of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day saints, at the age of 8 she had the opportunity to be baptized. Serving the lord was always a passion for Joy and when she turned 22 she was lucky enough to serve a mission for the church, and served faithfully from September 1966 to September 1968 in the French East Mission. Upon returning home Joy attended Brigham Young University and graduated in August 1972. Upon graduating she took a position in the religion department where she worked until she retired in September of 2009. During her service at BYU and her time living in Provo, she was able to make lasting friendships, and serve in many church callings, her favorite being a teacher for the sunbeams.

Joy was the most selfless and loving woman. If you ever had the privilege to meet her you had the opportunity to experience her true giving nature and her eagerness to serve others in any way she could. Though she didn’t have children of her own she adored her nieces and nephews and always made sure they had everything they wanted It is hard to find pictures of joy she was often the one holding the camera. or needed. That love extended to great nieces and nephews. There wasn’t anyone Joy wouldn’t reach out to serve or make friends with.

Joy is proceeded in death by many of her loved ones, including her parents, younger brothers Lester and Kenneth Smith, nephews Tyler Llewelyn, David Llewelyn, and Adrian Costello. She is survived by her sister Audree (Rodger) Llewelyn, and brother Jay (Cheryl) Smith. As well as many loving nieces and nephews. The family wishes to give a special thanks to the House family for the support Friendship and love that they helped provide Joy throughout her life.

A viewing will be held March 12,2021 from 6p-8p at the McDougal Funeral Home located at 4330 So Redwood Road Taylorsville Utah 84123. Funeral services will Held Saturday March 13,2021 at 11:30a, with a viewing before from 10:30-11:15.
