Joshua Arthur Kerby

Aug 8, 2004 Jun 2, 2021

Joshua Arthur Kerby, age 16, died on June 2nd, 2021 at Primary Children's Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was born on August 30th, 2004 in Provo, Utah to Thomas Wiley Kerby and Lindy McClellan Kerby.

Josh was born with a heart condition called Aortic Stenosis and always pushed the limits of what doctors recommended for his physical activity. He was so happy to finally receive an artificial heart valve in December of 2018, enabling him to no longer have any physical limitations for what he could do. From that time on, he diligently ate healthy, exercised, worked hard, and tried to enjoy life to the fullest.

Josh attended Elk Meadows Elementary, Elk Ridge Middle School, and finished his sophomore year at Bingham High School. He was self-driven, motivated, and able to maintain a 4.0 GPA. Josh enjoyed his academic classes as well as his Theater/Drama classes where he got to really let his goofy/funny side out. He wasn’t afraid of what anyone else thought, and was fiercely loyal to his friends, country and those he loved.

On Joshua’s soft side, he loved playing with his younger brother, nieces, and nephews. He was good with young children and also loved playing with the family’s goldendoodle, Precious. She loved him and would sleep each night at the foot of Josh’s bed.

Josh had a growing testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and was valiant in his priesthood service. He loved to make a difference in other people’s lives, and we know he would be grateful that he had the chance to donate his organs to bless others.

Josh is survived by his parents: Thom (Connie) Kerby, Lindy Kerby; siblings: Jessica Kerby, Tom (Katelyn) Kerby, Alyssa Kerby, Mikayla Kerby, Savanna Kerby, Paula Castiblanco, Tyler Kerby; grandparents, Tom and June Kerby, Norm and Becky McClellan; nephew, Tommy Kerby; aunts and uncles: Tammy and Scott Cooley, Jeff and Emily Kerby, Brent Kerby, Kyle Branch, Andrew Laroche, David and Shantelle Oliphant, MaeLyn and Steven Hiatt, Tayson McClellan, Kristy and Michael Brown, Lia and Ryan Betts, Amber and Scott Bryson, Joel McClellan, Heather and Tejay Cardon, April and Dean Dawes, Heidi and Ammon Smart, Haru and Jennifer McClellan; 48 cousins (and counting); sweet friend, Julee Williams, numerous highschool friends and pet GoldenDoodle, Precious.

A celebration of Josh’s life will take place at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Stake Center at 9894 S. 2700 W, South Jordan, UT 84095, on Friday June 11th at 10 am in the chapel, with viewing in the Relief Society room from 9-10am.
