Jonathan Daniel Morrison was born on December 4th, 1970 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Donald and Shirley Morrison. Jon attended the University of Utah studying Communications. On November 21, 2000 Jon married Kristy Phillips and started a life together. Jon and Kristy had two children that Jon loved and adored. His pride for his children was a constant throughout his life. He was happiest and most proud when spending time with his grandchildren. Jon was an expert goofball and troublemaker. He was also known to be a big soft teddy bear when it came to his wife, kids and grandkids.
Jon worked with troubled youth at Kearns High School where his unique sense of humor helped him to connect with the kids. Jon eventually built a career as a Master Plumber working for various companies throughout the Salt Lake Valley. Jon’s expertise in the trade contributed to his success as an instructor for the Utah Pipe Trades Local 140 where he worked to instill pride and quality in the young people entering the trade. Jon was well respected by both his peers and his students throughout his career.
Jon was a talented problem solver and loved everything mechanical. He inherited many skills from his father who was a mechanic for many years and that love for fixing things was a part of him. There was never a period where there wasn’t a handful of projects underway. He shared these skills and abilities with anyone that was in need at a moment’s notice. He was always generous with his time and talent and served so many. His signature move when tackling a tough or frustrating task was to breathe out heavily through slightly closed lips making a well-recognized sound that anyone who had spent time with him knew so well.
Jon is survived by his wife, Kristy (Phillips) Morrison. Daughter, Jolynn (Chase) Thayer and son in law, Brian Thayer. Son, Jakob Morrison and bonus daughter Karnee McCoy. Father, Donald Morrison, Sisters, Phyllis (Morrison) Strebe, Karen Morrison and Leslie (Morrison) Buck. His grandchildren, Owen, Leah, Ryker and Keegan as well as many nieces and nephews.
Jon was preceded in death by his brother, Andy Morrison, mother, Shirley Morrison and his father-in-law Ron Phillips.
A viewing will be held honoring Jon on November 7, 2022 at Redwood Mortuary 6500 S Redwood Rd. Salt Lake City UT from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm. Jon will be interred following the viewing at the same location.
Please join us to celebrate Jon and feel free to come as you are. Jon loved and accepted everyone just as they are and would never want an overly extravagant gathering of his loved ones

Jonathan was my next door neighbor growing up. I remember hanging out with him when we were kids. I was always amazed how smart he was. I am saddened to hear about his passing. God bless his family during this discult time.

I loved my uncle very much and have had wonderful memories with him. I miss him dearly and my heart aches that he has left us too soon. He will always hold a special place in my heart.
