Jon Larsen, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and son passed away March 17th, 2023 after several months of health issues.
He was born in San Diego California to Florence and Rulon Larsen in 1945. He was raised in Las Vegas and had a childhood full of scouts, baseball, basketball, music and hunting. He graduated from Las Vegas High School in 1963 where he distinguished himself academically and was elected Student Body President. He was voted Most Preferred man by his senior class and was involved in numerous clubs and organizations. Jon was given a Senate appointment to the Air Force Academy which he declined in favor of attending Brigham Young University on a full leadership scholarship. After his first year of college he served a two year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to the New England States Mission. Upon his return to BYU, he joined the BYU International Folk Dancers and had the opportunity to tour and perform all over Western Europe for two summers. In 1970, he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and enlisted in the Marine Corps. He served his country in various locations crisscrossing the country and traveled around the world. He loved the Corps and it became an integral part of him. That same year he married Dee Ann, his beautiful wife of more than 52 years. From that time forward his family was of the utmost priority to him.
Jon is survived by his wife, daughters and 8 grandchildren.
Services will be held on Saturday, March 25th at 11:00 AM at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 East Dimple Dell Road (10600 S.), Sandy. Friends are invited to greet the family during a viewing 10:00-10:45 AM prior to services.

Sending sincere sympathy to DeeAnn and daughters. We have had several water aerobics parties at their home. Jon was very creative from having displays of Harry Potter, floating candles, and a beautiful back yard adorned with flowers. DeeAnn as well as Jon, have always been so welcoming to their lovely home. Much love, 💞

Jon has been the best neighbor, he always keep an eye out on all of your homes, he would close our garage door if it was left open at night.
He Had a big heart, and a connection with my son McLean and my Brother Nick.
Jon was always there when you needed help.
Jon will be missed.

Jon passed to the other side on St. Patrick’s Day. March 17, 2023
Dear Jon,
I will miss you so: Your turn of phrase, your clever wit, your genuine friendship your travel commentary, fascinating stories, and your warrior Spirit. Perhaps you answered the mighty to arms for such a time as this.
Thank you for sharing your time and love of the fullness of the gospel.
All my admiration,
Cindy Macdonald

Jon Larsen—
I only met Jon about 7 and 1/2 years ago, but he has been a major direction change influencer in my life to this point. Jon is the only soldier I have known and observed up close. He stands alone in a number of areas in my experience:
—Insights and understanding of Holy writ that I have never heard or considered before, yet they absolutely ring true to my logic and reasoning. He is such an unlikely source; a mere marine soldier who far exceeds the “learned”, the staunch religous and academics that one might think would possess deep understandings and insights. They do not approach remotely what Jon has taught me.
—His understanding and skill in using a hand gun and rifle exceed anyone I know.
—His experience in travel and knowledge of what there is to see and do in many places that I have never been is amazing to me, and were it not for Jon’s subtle encouragement, I would never have gone or experienced those places. When I have family visit and I have an opportunity to take them to some of these same places, it is merely a “do what Jon showed me.” It always turns out exceptionally well.
—His knowledge and skill in home building/remodeling, grounds and yard care are well above the typical, and his selfless sharing of these abilities makes one step back and wonder, “What do I do that is even close?”
—Jon has become the definition of what a true friend is for me. He is a man I admire and in many ways want to emulate.
Thank you Sir—
