John Willard Johnson Jr.

John Willard Johnson, Jr passed away on January 5, 2023 in Murray, Utah at the age of 87. John was born on October 9, 1935 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He graduated from the University of Utah with an MBA. He was a member of the Air National Guard and served a mission to Argentina for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He married the love of his life, Barbara Claire Selander, on August 18, 1961. They began their family in Salt Lake City then moved to Ypsilanti, Michigan, where John worked for the Ford Motor Company for 4 years before moving back to Salt Lake City to work for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He worked for the Church for over 30 years.

After retiring, John and Barbara served a full time mission among the Navajo people. John loved his family unconditionally and loved to study and teach the gospel. He spent much of his free time working on family history, helping the living remember their ancestors and helping those that have passed to obtain their saving ordinances. The temple was so central in his life that one of the last things he did in this life was renewing his temple recommend.

He was preceded in death by his wife Barbara, his son David, and his sister Darlene. Survived by his two brothers, Vern and Gayland and 4 of his children: Linda Gunderson (Dave) of Draper, Utah; John (Suzannah) of Sandy, Utah; Mike (Sara) of St. George, Utah; and Rob (Merisa) of West Jordan, Utah; as well as 21 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren.
