John Charles Axford (born John Charles Paas) died Saturday morning, December 14, 2024. John was born on September 24, 1950 in Buffalo, New York to William Francis Paas & Shirley Elizabeth (Gress) Paas. His father died of pneumonia when John was only a year old so he was raised in Southern California by his mother and his step father, George Allen Axford. Although not formally adopted, John used the name Axford throughout his life.
John graduated from Ganesha High School in Pomona, California and shortly afterward enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served as a Pneudraulic Aircraft Repairman. He served in Thailand and was deployed to Vietnam in support of the Vietnam War from 1971 through 1972. He was honorably discharged in 1974. Following his service, he settled in California where he began his family. He is the father of 3 children who survive him: Lindsey, Joshua and Kenneth Axford.
John worked in several professions and was at his best in sales. Throughout his life, John struggled with the effects of PTSD from his military service which contributed to his struggles in his roles as a husband and father. He lived his life in California, North Carolina and Utah.
As his health began to decline due to lung cancer, as well as other ailments that come with aging, John was watched over by his brothers and their families. He passed away at home in Eagle Mountain, Utah. He is survived by his children Lindsey, Joshua and Kenneth, his grandchildren, and his siblings: Joyce Belcher, James Paas, Donald Paas, Carol Thayer and Mary Axford. He was preceded in death by his parents, his infant brother Richard Paas, and his older brother William George Axford. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and other family members.
