Jimmy Elwyn Entwistle

Mar 2, 1944 Aug 12, 2026

Jimmy Elwyn Entwistle, age 82, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 12, 2026. He was born on March 2, 1944, in Nampa, Idaho to Elwyn Allen Entwistle and Jean Mildred Logan.

After growing up in Idaho and Puerto Rico, Jim attended Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. This is where he met his future wife, Twyla Louise Pierce. He would secretly go out each winter morning to scrape the ice off her car windshield. This act of service not only allowed him to meet her but started a courtship that led to their marriage in the LDS Salt Lake Utah Temple.

Shortly thereafter, Jim and Twyla moved to Moline, Illinois where he began work as a Mechanical Engineer for John Deere Tractor Company. He then worked as an Engineer for Tycos Industries in the Taylor Instrument Division in Asheville, N.C. and in Juarez, Mexico. When Jim retired from Taylor Instrument, he and Twyla learned to drive an 18-wheeler and worked together as team drivers for CR England Transportation. He then worked for DATS Trucking in Hurricane, Utah.

Jim built a life centered on service, hard work, and deep love for his family. He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in many leadership callings including Stake Presidency, Bishop, High Council, High Priest Group Leader and Ministering Brother. Together, Jim and Twyla also served a 2 1/2-year mission at the St. George Utah Temple.

Jim had many interests. He was an avid student of church doctrine. He loved automobiles both learning about them, working on them and driving them. He would often be seen on Saturday mornings spending time working on and cleaning his autos. He enjoyed firearms, reloading and photography. Jim was fluent in Spanish from when he was a young man growing up in Puerto Rico.

He is survived by his daughter, Derena (Jeff); son, David (Dawna); sister Jean Entwistle Jones along with grandchildren Chase Entwistle, Courtney Prince, Sidney Langford, Whitney Adamson and Pierce Adamson (deceased) and five great-grandchildren; Ryker, Peyton, Bucky, Hadley and William.

A private funeral service will be held with family on Wednesday, August 19, 2026 at Spilsbury Hurricane Valley Mortuary in Hurricane, Utah. Burial will be at the Hurricane Cemetery in Hurricane, Utah.

Arrangements are made under the direction of Spilsbury Mortuary, 110 South Bluff Street, St. George, Utah. 435-673-2454.
