Butch was born May 22, 1955 in Modesto, California. His mother was Florence Louise Crawford and his father was Shirley Lee Russell. Florence and Shirl eventually divorced and Florence remarried and Butch took the last name of his step-father, Lee Larsson. He attended Coarsegold Elementary School. He graduated from McLane High School in Fresno, California in 1973.

While at McLane High he met and was fellowshipped by wonderful, faithful members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He took the missionary lessons in the home of a friend and he always testified that he instantly knew that the teachings were true. At the age of 18 he was baptized into the Church and has never looked back. At the age of 19 he left his home, family and friends and spent two-years going door to door sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ as a missionary. He served in the Washington D.C. Mission from 1974-1976. He loved his mission, the people he met there and the companions and leaders he served with. He was in Washington D.C. during the celebration of the Bicentennial of the signing of the U.S. Constitution and the creation of the United States of America. It was an exciting time to be in Washington, D.C.

Butch attended California State University, Fresno and obtained a Bachelors Degree in Speech/Communications. He enjoyed sales and worked in the car and trucking business. He served a term as the President of the Transportation Club in Fresno.

He met his wife-to-be, Julie Ann Bowen, in a singles ward in Fresno, CA. They were married in the Oakland, CA Temple on January 4, 1986. In their 35 years together, they were blessed with five children. He found his greatest joy in spending time with his immediate family and extended family. As an only child he was happy to be welcomed into the large Bowen/Copple family. He was a kind and loving father. He coached Brittney's soccer team one year and he coached McKay's football team. He loved to see his children perform and compete. His blessings multiplied as son-in-laws and a daughter-in-law and nine grandchildren were added to the family. He was very proud of them and liked to brag about them and their accomplishments to anyone who would listen.

In 2005 Butch moved his family from Clovis, CA to South Jordan, UT. It was a wise move as his three children have met and married their spouses in Utah.

He had a contagious smile and laugh that made him beloved by family and friends. He was the life of the party and took great joy into bringing a room to uproarious laughter. He also brought people together with his cooking, and could often be found manning the barbecue at family gatherings. One of his favorite presents was a gift certificate for a weekend cooking class at Bam Bam's BBQ. He enjoyed cooking for his family and also for his co-workers at England Logistics. They were always appreciative of his yummy BBQ lunches.

Butch was many things – a son, husband, father, grandpa, coworker, and friend, and he was loved and will be greatly missed by all of those in his sphere. As they grieve his passing, his family is grateful for the knowledge of the Plan of Salvation and look forward with hope to the day that they will all be together again.

Butch is survived by his wife Julie, and their five children - Brittney McHenry (Ryan McHenry), Taylor Hansen (Kurt Hansen), Russell Larsson, Stephen Larsson (Rebecca Larsson), and McKay Larsson, and nine grandchildren.

Many thanks to all of our family and friends who have helped during these last few weeks of Butch's life. Butch was diagnosed with stage 4 sarcoma cancer on October 18, 2020. Thanks to Symbii Home Health & Hospice who provided care for him. Thank you to England Logistics for their generous gift, love, concern, prayers and friendship. Thank you to our South Jordan River Ridge 7th Ward for all their ministering of love, concern, prayers, service and support. Thank you to Julie's personal ministering angels Brittney McHenry, Taylor Hansen, Debra Fitzpatrick, Kathleen Rosenbaum and Nancy Bowen who showed that they were willing to bear one another's burdens, that they may be light. And were willing to mourn with those who mourn; yea, and comfort those that stand in need of comfort. We thank our Savior, Jesus Christ, who performed the amazing Atonement to save us and to allow us to rise up and live again.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 2, 2021 at 11:00 am at Jenkins-Soffe South Valley, 1007 W. South Jordan Parkway, South Jordan, Utah. Masks and social distancing are required. The service will also be streamed online at www.jenkins-soffe.com for those not able to attend.
