Jerre Ann Jones Baker

Nov 28, 1938 Jun 9, 2023

Our precious, sweet mother and grandmother, Jerre Ann Jones Baker, peacefully passed away after a long illness on Friday June 9, 2023. Incredibly, she passed 29 years to the day after her dear husband. Jerre was born the second daughter and forth child to Heber August Jones and Zada Teresa Terry Jones on November 28, 1938 in Salt Lake City. The excited siblings were Arel Rae, Dale Wayne and Brent Dean, with Phillip Carl joining them two years later. She spent her growing up years in a home built by her father in Salt Lake City near cherished relatives. Jerre graduated from West High School in 1957. She attended LDS Business College and worked at Auerbach's Department Store.

She met her eternal companion, Bruce Beldon Baker, when she was about 10 as he was best friends with her older brother, Brent. After many years of teasing and annoying her she finally gave in to his insistent requests for a date after high school. They were married on November 12, 1959 in Salt Lake City and later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. Since her husband served in the United States Air Force, they moved frequently around the States and Canada. This was a difficult adjustment for this shy girl from Salt Lake City. Military service sent them to Sacramento, CA; Shreveport, LA; Plattsburgh, NY where their daughter Memorie Ann was born; Newfoundland, Canada where their son Aron Bruce was born;

Atwater, CA; Spokane, WA; Merced, CA; finally retiring and returning to Spokane. Wonderful, lifelong friends were made throughout their military service and retirement. Bruce passed away on June 9, 1994 and Jerre moved to St. George, UT to be closer to family.

Jerre was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints serving in callings faithfully throughout her life. Her love of the Savior never waivered nor did her testimony of the Church.

She was an excellent caregiver to her sick husband for 10 years as he battled cancer which required her to work full time to help support them. Mom was very devoted to her family giving a lot of support and comfort to her children and grandchildren. She loved baking and sharing with family and neighbors. Working in the yard was a love of hers as she took pride in her beautiful flowers. Jerre loved to sew, crochet, knit and needlepoint, even teaching some of her grandchildren this art. She even had a yarn shop in her home for a short time. She loved to make things which she joyfully gave to others. Keeping the candy jars full in her house for her family was also a top priority.

Preceded in death by husband, sister (Arel), brothers (Dale and Brent), and granddaughter (Alissa Ann Stanton). Survived by brother (Phillip), children Memorie Baker Stanton, Aron Bruce (Susan)Baker, grandchildren Chelsey Stanton, Shirese Stanton (Andrew) Goldring, Sydney Baker (Morgan) Smith, Stuart Aron Baker, Megan Baker (Samuel) Stewart, great grandchildren Kurt Stanton, Leila Balane and Evelyn Smith.
