Jean Wood Mackay

Mar 26, 1936 Feb 5, 2021

Jean Mackay, a loving mother, grandmother and friend, went peacefully to be with the Heavenly Father on February 5, 2021; she died peacefully at home after a brief time on hospice care and being cared for by loved ones. Jean was born March 26, 1936 to Francis Marion and Hazel Wood. Jean was raised by George Albert and Eleanor Kinder. She graduated from Granite High School in 1954, and later married the love of her life, Dick, on Valentine's Day 1955 in the Salt Lake Temple. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Jean spent 27 years doing hair in her shop, which was built in the family home. Jean was an avid crafter, creating many beautiful gifts for everyone she knew. Her attention to detail made her creations prize winners at City, County and State Fairs. Anyone who knew Jean knew she loved bowling - many years in leagues and many years serving on the Salt Lake Bowling Association. After closing her shop, and being involved in bowling for many years she worked for Karen Pullman’s Pro Shop. She was inducted into the Salt Lake City Bowling Association Hall of Fame in 2010. This honor came from her dedicated service and participation in bowling and the association. She and Dick were both inducted to the Hall of Fame, one of the few couples ever to have this honor. Jean was an amazing volunteer, her induction into the Hall of Fame recognized her volunteering in bowling. She was Volunteer of the Year at the Taylorsville Senior Center, and she volunteered in her church, serving in many positions.

Jean is survived by her children; Dave, John (Barbara), Clark (Mary), Troylyn Lindsay, Sid (Peggy); 14 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dick; daughter, Cheryl; and parents.

A sincere thank you to Natasha and Makell with Canyon Homecare and Hospice for their loving care of Jean and compassionate love to the family.
