On June 24, our world lost some of its brilliant luster. This bright light was the soul of Jay Kevin Sumampong. From his beginning—February 10, 1993—Jay Kevin always sought a well-lived life, one brimming with his goofiness, his laughter (and the laughter of those around him), and his loved ones.

Jay Kevin was a cherished son to Manolito and Consuelo; a fantastic companion to his older siblings Marc, Yvonne, Dechie (and his brothers-in-law Jacob and Nathan); and an extraordinary older brother—taking on the additional roles of protector and best friend—to his younger sister Kirsten. Jay Kevin had an abundance of love, an incredible amount of which flowed through his role as uncle to Kai and Flynn, and as a father-figure to Aumelie. None knew the breadth of his capacity for love though better than his deeply committed and loving partner, Teresa.

Regardless of how you knew Jay Kevin, it was apparent to all how special and authentic he was. His caring and loving nature made everyone feel they belonged, whether pitching you an impromptu flight to Hawaii, a bouldering session at the climbing gym, or even a drive to the mountains to snowboard. When not chasing the outdoors, he was certainly always ready to join a League of Legends match, to check everyone’s chess skills, or to capitalize on a Monopoly-filled night.

Time; money, attention—Jay Kevin was generous, and routinely gave away so much of what he had without a thought for himself. This was hardly surprising given his extraordinary and rare talent: to see the best in everyone. He routinely used this talent to bring out the best in his friends and family, and those who know him best consider this his legacy: he truly left the world a better place.

Jay Kevin is preceded in death by his grandparents Manuel Sr, Rosalio, and Belliza, as well as his uncle Manuel Jr. and cousin Lorenzo.

Jay Kevin, you will always be remembered, loved, and cherished. Your absence from our lives is nothing short of devastating, and we will cling to the memories of your contagious laugh, or your thoughtful and sing-song cadence of speech, and of late-nights that you somehow always stretched toward dawn.

We will be honoring Jay Kevin with a viewing held on Tuesday, June 29th from 6-8pm. Followed by a celebration of his life on Wednesday, June 30th at 6pm with a short viewing beforehand at 5pm.
