Janet Sigrid Jones

Just beyond the gates of heaven, a long awaited and joyous reunion occurred as Janet Sigrid Jones was welcomed home into her parents loving arms. On December 28, 2022, her courageous battle with a severe 13 year illness was finally over and she was free; free to sing and dance, play the piano, and paint the most beautiful scenery even the angels in heaven could not imagine.

Janet was born August 10, 1941 to Soren Olsen Sorenson Vatsend and Ester Elin (Ekberg) Vatsend at Holy Cross hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Janet is survived by 6 children, Terri (Kim) Richman, Heidi Deherrera, Cindy (Chris) Sullivan, David (Robyn) Jones, Brett Jones, and Kristy (Travis) Riddle, 16 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 1 great grandson with whom she's singing and cradling until his birth here on earth, 4 siblings, Mary Cheney, Elaine Cheshire,Ronald (Carol) Vatsend, Donald Vatsend, sister in law Dennie Collett, and her dearest friend and partner in crime, Lisa Goodfellow.

She is preceded in death by her parents Soren Olsen Vatsend and Ester Elin (Ekberg) Vatsend, husband Guy Vance Jones, husband Hyde Charles Layton, son in law George Raines, brothers Robert Vatsend and James Vatsend, brother in law Robert Cheshire, brother in law Walter Collett, sister in law Susan (Galli) Vatsend and nephew Richard Prescott.

Janet loved learning about our family history, treasuring documents and photographs of her family and friends. Our hearts can heal from the loss of our dear mother, grandma, sister, aunt and friend as we say goodbye knowing she's meeting with those that have passed before us, camera held ready.

Until we see you again, you'll be with us in our hearts. We love you mom.

The family would like to offer a sincere thank you to all who have been there with so much love and support the last 7 months. Your kindness will not be forgotten.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 9, 2023, at 11:00 AM with a viewing held two hours prior from 9:00 – 10:30 AM at Memorial Redwood Mortuary and Cemetery 6500 South Redwood Road, West Jordan, Utah 84123. Interment will immediately follow at the same location.
