Born in Salt Lake City, Utah to the late Allan Jesse Platt and Elizabeth (Spencer) he graduated from East High School and served a full-time mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Germany. He was commissioned in the Utah Army National Guard, attaining the rank of Lieutenant.

James was known for his love of the outdoors, especially hiking the Uintas, and never met a flashlight or piece of outdoor gear he didn’t like. An avid reader, he had a fondness for history, westerns and anything to do with the military. He taught his kids the importance of hard work, honesty and serving others, and while he will be missed, we know we will see him again.
