James "M" Burrows (Jimmy/Jim)

1933-2021

On December 2, 1933 a beautiful baby boy joined his parents Glen Smith and Evelyn McOmie Burrows and a big brother, Bill. Two other brothers joined soon after. Jerry and Joe. They had one brother who died in birth just before Jim.

His childhood was spent in Murray, Utah where his adventurous personality came out. He escaped his home boundaries several times. Once finding him riding his trike down the big hill in Murray Park at age 4.  In his teenage years he loved to fish and would spend time at the river in Murray Park. In high school, he was very athletic, competing in football, basketball and track. He was a star player in all of these sports with many newspaper articles including the Deseret News praising his incredible athletic abilities. He still holds the record for the 220 yard low hurdles at Murray High.  From 1953-1955 he served in the Army where he was a Corporal and was still able to use his athletic skills. While competing in track there he won first place in pole vault.

On Aug 4, 1958, he married Arlene Eames. June 14, 1974 they were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they had 6 children. Our family spent many fun times going boating as a family and with friends. It was a sport that kept family and friends together. In fact, the boat purchased in 1979 is still used and in our family today to carry on the fun traditions. Both his immediate family and his brothers have remained a close family and enjoyed sharing each other's company on our journey here in earth life. He has been such an amazing Dad to all of his children and always defended his kids even when they may not have deserved it. He also served in two bishoprics and spent many years serving the youth. His generosity served many people in his ward and in life in general. He owned his own business, B&C Detailing for many years. They detailed the steel in many buildings and bridges. Some being the Fashion Show Mall and one Circus Circus tower in Las Vegas.

Jim passed away January 11, 2021 from natural causes. He was in the arms of his children and surrounded by many of his grand children.

He is survived by his children, Lori Ann, James Michael, Steven Chris (Nikki), David Alan (Heidi), Jennifer Lee (Kevin) and Mark Edwin (Kim). His ex-wife Arlene. 26 grandchildren and spouses, 22 great grandchildren and 4 great, great grandchildren. His brothers Bill (Elaine) and Joe (Pat). Sister in law Karolyn. Nieces and Nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Jerry and stillborn baby. Nephew Kim.

We would also like to thank his neighbors, Sonja and Josh and his good friend Tom who have been such awesome friends and helped take care of him in his later years.

Jim was our wonderful neighbor for over 20 years. Our kids all spent time with him on his boat and other youth activities. Jim was a kind man who was generous with his time and talents. We loved being his neighbor.
