Carl was born in Coltman Idaho, raised in Ucon Idaho to Joseph Lloyd Rasmussen and Dora Elizabeth Simmons August 31, 1927, the 3rd of 10 children

Carl joined the Marines when he was 17. Watching World War II happen, he knew he needed to help, just waiting to be old enough to enlist. Serving in the Marines for 7 years he served in both WWII and the Korean conflict.

Carl met Joyce through a friend on a blind date to go see Bambi. They were married in October 1949 in the Salt Lake temple.

Carl and Joyce moved to Kearns UT in 1954, where he lived until he passed.

They have 5 children, Tawnya (Keoni) Kaimimoku, John (Janet) Rasmussen, David Rasmussen, Terry (Penny) Rasmussen, Karen (Randy) Whipple.

Carl loved laughing. Finding the perfect funny card was his specialty. He loved jokes of all kinds, famously citing his own experience, how do you keep a chicken fresh while on scout camp? Feed it grain until Thursday.  9 times out of 10 you were greeted with a joke. His laughter was infectious and watching his face light up after telling a joke is a memory that we will forever cherish.

Carl’s life was dedicated to the service of others. Demonstrated by serving as bishop and scout master. Scouting awards he received were the Silver beaver, Silver beehive and Scoutmaster key. In 2014 at his 75 year in scouting he received a letter of congratulation from President Thomas Monson. In 2019 he was honored for 80 years in scouting.

He and Joyce served the people of Guatemala 1989-1991 on an LDS mission. He continued his life of service caring for Joyce when she began having Alzhiemers and continued until the end of his life.

Joyce was the love of his life. Every Valentine and anniversary, he made sure she had a corsage to wear and that there were always gorgeous red, white, and blue flowers in the garden to enjoy.

Carl’s most cherished memories in life are with his family, his church and scouting.

Guestbook

I've had the pleasure of being Bishop Rasmussen's backyard neighbor for the past 10 years. One of the sweetest, friendliest neighbors I've ever had.

The 2nd year I lived here, a cherry tree in my yard that sprawls over our shared back fence bore a bumper crop. One Saturday afternoon that July, my doorbell rang. When I answered it was Bishop Rasmussen standing there peering up at me over a freshly baked pie.

When I opened the door, he said, "I have a confession to make. I've been stealing cherries."

To which I replied, "If this is the result, steal some more! I don't see a problem!"

We had a great laugh and a piece of pie on my front porch.

I will miss my backyard friend but I feel so blessed to be acquainted with him and his sweet wife. Blessings of comfort to his family.
