Grant Hyde Merrill

Aug 23, 1962 Apr 27, 2023

Grant Hyde Merrill, our loving husband and father, passed away on Thursday, April 27, 2023, following a long illness. He spent his final weeks surrounded by family and friends.

Grant was born on August 23, 1962, in White Plains, New York, to Rowland H. Merrill Jr. and Barbara Helen Mealer.

Grant attended public schools in the Salt Lake District before graduating in 1981 from East High School. Grant then served a mission to the Texas Dallas Mission from 1982 to 1983. He met the love of his life, Crystal Henderson, in July of 1989 and they were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple in June of 1990. They lived in Salt Lake City until moving to their current home in Cottonwood Heights, Utah in 1992.

Grant was a dedicated member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Grant bore his testimony of the Savior through his daily actions and examples of humility and service. Grant served diligently for many years in the ward clerk’s office. Grant was called in June of 2017 to serve as the Stake Clerk in the Butler West Stake until October 2021.

Grant loved all things cars and was very knowledgeable about them. One of Grant’s fondest memories was when his sons arranged an experience for his 60th birthday where he was able to drive a Lamborghini.

Grant is survived by his wife of 33 years, Crystal, and his sons Bryce (Rachel) Merrill and Drew (Alyssa) Merrill. He loved and respected his in laws, the Henderson family, and enjoyed spending time with them. Grant was the oldest of many siblings and the oldest Grandchild of Dr. Rowland H. Merrill and Margaret C. Merrill of Salt Lake City. He is also survived by his sister Elise, brother Danny, cousin Kit, many nieces and nephews, and Daniel A. Loewen.

Grant is preceded in death by his brother, Lincoln “Link” Loewen, his father Rowland, his loving mother Barbara and her husband Merrill Smedley.

The family would like to thank Intermountain Hospice, the Staff at Intermountain Medical Oncology – IMC and Grant’s cancer support Group at IMC. A special thanks to Remy.
