Gordon Bruce Taylor

December 9, 1928 – May 4, 2025

When he planned out his funeral more than 20 years ago Gordon said that his obituary must start as all his life stories started with, “I was born at a very young age…”

Gordon Bruce Taylor was born at a very young age on December 9, 1928 and slipped quietly from this life into the next at the ripe old age of 96 plus years on May 4, 2025.

Gordon was a charming soul with a warm smile, who loved people and loved to make connections with friends, family or even strangers wherever he went. No one stayed a stranger for long. He loved his family and was a wonderful son, brother, father, uncle, and friend.

Gordon would often be found singing a song because some word somebody said brought a song to mind. He often said he knew a song about everything and if he didn't know a song, he would make one up. He could quote the poem "The Cremation of Sam McGee" word for word and taught his kids Shakespeare by shooing them from a room saying "out, out brief candle". Whether he was telling stories of his time in the army spent at the Ernie Pyle theater in Japan or traveling by boat to serve a mission to Brazil, or down on the ground arm wrestling his grandchildren and great grandchildren, we could always count on him to entertain.

Gordon married the love of his life, Margaret Jean Norman, on November 23, 1955. Mom's anniversary, however, was the day before Thanksgiving. Some years their anniversary fell on the same day and some years they had to celebrate twice. Together they raised seven children: Judy, Doug, Lenore (Steve), Anita, LaDawn (Steve), Matt (Jim), Dalan (Heather), and bonus granddaughter Amy (Mark). He also had 21 grands, 42 greats, 11 great greats. He will also watch over from the other side, two sisters-in-law, and numerous nieces and nephews. His family brought him great joy and he loved spending time with them.

He often told us that he would read the obituaries every morning to see if he needed to get out of bed. So if you're reading this Dad, you can stay in bed a while longer! PS, I'm going to miss our Sunday afternoon talks. Give Mom and Angie a hug from us!
