Gladys Mary Brown Westenskow

Aug 8, 1930 Sep 29, 2023

Taylorsville, Utah

Gladys Mary Brown Westenskow passed away peacefully from this life on Friday, the 29th of September, 2023 after a prolonged confinement to her bed. She was 93 years old.

Gladys was born on August 8, 1930 to Mary Jane Christensen and John Martin Brown, of Roy, Utah. She was the youngest of ten children. She grew up on the family farm, where she learned the value and timeliness of hard work, a trait that she carried with her throughout her entire life.

She was a dedicated member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints her entire life. Her testimony of Jesus Christ was a source of strength and comfort to her all of her life. She served in many callings and excelled in all of them.

While living and working in Chicago in 1951, she met Claude Lorrain Westenskow. They were later married in the Salt Lake Temple on June 19, 1953. Over the years they welcomed 8 children into their family, and together provided a gospel filled home of love and learning.

During his declining years, Gladys nursed and cared for Claude through a brain tumor and the ravages of Kidney disease, resulting in several years of dialysis. After he passed away in 1999, she invited her sister into her home, where she took care of her for several years, until she passed away.

When she was no longer able to physically take care of her home to her satisfaction, she moved in with her daughter where she stayed almost 12 years. During her final years, she longed to be reunited with her husband and many other family members, having outlived all of her siblings, their spouses, and all of her husband’s family as well. She looked forward to that reunion while staying valiant in her circumstances. The needs and well being of her children consumed her final thoughts. She will be missed, but our sorrow is swallowed up in the joy of her sweet reunions and the continuation of her eternal journey.

She was preceded in death by her husband Claude, her son Doug, and her grandson Jason, her parents and all of her brothers and sisters. Survived by Lorrie Westenskow, Susan Daniels (Gordon), Dave Westenskow (Karinne), Alison Bateman (Evan), Julie Blackham (Ed), Janet Westenskow and Mike Westenskow (Heather), 27 grandchildren and 48 great grandchildren.
