Gilbert "Gil" Quentin Taylor

Dec 13, 1933 Dec 19, 2022

Gilbert Quentin Taylor quietly passed away with his wife at his side in the early morning of Dec. 19th 2022 at his home after suffering from a sudden illness, just 6 days after his 89th birthday. Gil was the son of Clarence and Marion Taylor. He was raised in Salt Lake City “in the midst of hard times” he said, “but actually my era was the best of all eras for a young kid growing up.”

Gil attended East High School, was active in sports and made all-state in football. Education was important to Gil. He graduated from University of Utah with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He later received his Master’s Degree in Aerospace technology from Redlands University in Redlands, CA and in Computer Science from the University of Southern California. He lived in many of the western states where he worked in aircraft and solid rocketry as an aerospace engineer, computer scientist, and software consultant.

Gil loved fly fishing and said “it provided complete, healthful relaxation in a beautiful scenic setting”. He also loved to sing and would sing songs everyday. He said “songs are miracles. The words and music bring memories of all kinds, and you never forget them.”

He married his red-headed sweetheart Margene Murri on June 21st, 1954 in the Salt Lake City Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Gil and Margene would’ve been celebrating their 69th wedding anniversary in 2023. He was the father of 4 children, Kirk (Anne), Loralee, Doug (Marsha), and Angela. The family was Gil’s highest hopes and aspirations. He is survived by his wife, 4 children, 5 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and two older brothers.
