Tooele, Utah -

Georgena “Genie” Mae Beardall passed away peacefully on July 1st, 2023. Genie was a beloved daughter, sister, aunt, friend, and teacher.

Genie was born on December 1st, 1935, in Bridgeland, Utah. She grew up in Mapleton, Utah working alongside her parents, Bird and Jessie Beardall, and sisters, Darlene and LuWanna, on their family farm. On the farm, Genie learned the value of hard work and a little bit of mischief. Genie would tell heartfelt stories from her childhood about anything from working on the farm to playing with her favorite baby doll.

She graduated from Springville High School in 1954 and earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Brigham Yong University in 1961. Shortly after graduating from BYU, she moved to Tooele, Utah and began her teaching career. When she moved to Tooele she met her lifelong best friend, Kathy.

Although Genie was an educator in the classroom for 36 years, she was a role model to everyone throughout her entire life. She taught first grade at West Elementary School in Tooele and in 1997 she was named Teacher of the Year. Genie adored her students and would go to great lengths to ensure they felt loved. She would often buy her students an extra pair of shoes or toys just to ensure no one went without. Genie taught two generations of first graders and former students would call or send cards to Genie to reminisce about their first-grade year with Ms. Beardall.

Genie loved to spend her time fishing, gardening, and traveling. Genie and her two best friends, Fred and Kathy, would take fishing trips regularly to Strawberry Reservoir and Alaska. Genie loved to tell the story of a particular trip to Alaska when she caught a Halibut that was bigger than she was. Kathy and Genie traveled all over the country together and were able to explore almost every state. Genie also adored spending time with her dogs, Obi, TC, and Maggie. She would always reward the dogs for a job well done with a McDonald’s hamburger.

Genie was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints serving in multiple callings, her favorite being Activity Days.

Genie’s superpower was her ability to love without fear. She would have given anything to see someone she cared about happy. She doted on the Bitters’ family and attended countless sports’ games, graduations, weekend trips, birthday parties, and family gatherings.

Genie is preceded in death by her dear friend, Fred Davis; her most cherished friend and confidante, Kathy Taylor; her parents, Bird and Jessie Beardall; sisters, Luwanna, Darlene, and Nila; brother, Carwin. She is survived by her brother, Gordon and many nephews and nieces. She is also survived by the Bitters family, Scott and Karen, Karly, Kaleb (Tavia and son, Cole), and Kaitlyn.

A special thanks to all the wonderful staff at Cottage Glen Assisted Living who made Genie feel at home and to Active Home Health and Hospice, especially Michelle Bolinder and Jade Landis. We would also like to thank Chaplin Mike.
