George Matthews

May 26, 1953 May 18, 2024

George Matthews was born May 26th, 1953 and died May 18th, 2024 after a battle with Diffuse Large B Cell Lymphoma. He met the love of his life, Donna, in 1974 and they were married the following year in 1975. The early years of their marriage were spent exploring nature, from Southern Utah, to Yellowstone National Park. Their son, Brett, was born in 1980, and their daughter, Jessie, was born in 1981. As a family, they continued exploring the outdoors, camping, boating and biking.

George was a Jack of All Trades, owning both his own auto service station and his own dental tool repair company. His favorite job was that of an Airframe and Powerplant mechanic, working for the airlines at the Salt Lake International Airport. George and Donna built a second home in Moab, Utah, which then spread into a hobby of designing and building his own Mission Style furniture, which adorns their house. George and Donna also began traveling more, developing a love of the Hawaiian Islands, multiple national parks in the Western United States and Disney. Together, George and Donna spent many vacations in the Hawaiian Islands, as well as Disneyland and Walt Disney World with their children and grandchildren, while becoming lifelong fans of the Mouse. Golfing became a passion for George, spending time each week on the courses with Donna and his golfing buddies. The Aloha style became part of George, always in an Aloha shirt and shorts, dreaming of warmer weather and golf.

George is survived by his wife Donna, son Brett (Melanie), daughter Jessie (Steve) and granddaughters Riley and Emma and grandson Edge.

Thanks to Dr. Allison Bock, Ausha, the Huntsman Cancer Institute and Hospital ICU and the 4k Hematology unit staff for their dedication and attention they gave George.
