Gene Edwin Anfinson, 84, passed away peacefully at home on September 27, 2026 in Bloomington, Utah. He was born to Anfin Anfinson and Hazel Ovida Olson, in Willmar Minnesota on Oct 3, 1941.

He graduated from Atwater High and attended college at St. Cloud State College. He became well known for his basketball skills in high school and college. He earned his teaching degree and taught elementary for 10 years, then developed family businesses.

On June 5, 1964, he married his beloved wife, Lynell Hatch, in the Mesa, Arizona Temple. Together, they shared 62 years of marriage and raised 7 children. Gene was a devoted husband and father with a passion for life and learning. He enjoyed sharing his many talents with others.

Gene and Lynell’s life took them on many adventures. Their marriage found them in Minnesota, Arizona, Vernal, Utah and eventually they made their home in St. George, Utah.

Gene was a convert to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully in many callings over the years. He taught Sunday School, seminary and institute, and was blessed to have served as a Bishop, temple worker, temple sealer, and a home teacher for over 60 years. One of the highlights of his church service were the missions he and Lynell served together in Canada, New Zealand and the Vernal Temple as a member of the Presidency.

He also served his community on the School Board, City Council and Water Conservancy District. He was an entrepreneur, developing Esquire RV, Esquire Estates and Ponderosa Feed & Tack in Vernal, Utah. He also enjoyed helping his contractor sons plan and build housing developments in Vernal.

His hobbies included hunting, fishing, playing basketball and horseshoe pitching. He also loved being a cowboy, riding horses, herding cattle and running a small ranch.

He leaves behind his loving, eternal companion, Lynell, and 7 children; Tony (Sandra) Lewis, Todd (Stephanie) Anfinson, Lyndia (Ron) Hubbard, Penny (Joe) Yardley, Jason (Tokeyi) Anfinson, Bridget (Harrison) Kee, and Jeff (DaNeill) Williams; 28 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.

Funeral Services will be held Monday, October 5, 2026 at 11:00am at the Bloomington Chapel (3381 Mulberry Drive, St George, UT). Viewings will be held Sunday evening, October 4, 2026 from 5-7pm and Monday, October 5, 2026 9:30-10:30AM at the Bloomington Chapel. Interment will be held at the Tonaquint Cemetery following the services.
