Fermin Duran

Sep 20, 1923 Dec 12, 2021

Fermin Duran, our dear father passed away at home Sunday, December 12, 2021.

He was born in Rodarte (Llano Largo), New Mexico to Juan Facundo Duran and Natividad Lopez Duran. He married his sweetheart Ernestina Martinez on April 17, 1950.

Dad and Mom did an amazing job raising their seven children. He worked at Kennecott Copper (Rio Tinto) for 33 years. He would pack his lunch and coffee in his black metal lunch box each day never complained about having to go to work. He had a wonderful outlook on life. Nothing got in his way of enjoying living life to the fullest. As a young man and for most of his life he enjoyed fly fishing. He would fry the fish that he caught for his family and they were delicious. He had a way to make them fish taste great. One of dad’s love was his garden. He carefully created a wonderful garden, especially his peas. He would maintain his weed free garden until he turned 92. Every chance he had he would head to Wendover. Even if he didn’t win, he had an absolute great time playing the slots or table games. Whether attending Bingo on Friday Nights or playing card games with friends and/or grandchildren brought him immense joy.

Dad was preceded in death by his parents, wife of 67 years and his sister, Desmiria Duran Esquibel. He is survived by his children, Jesse Duran, Della (Jack) Matthews, Yolanda (Jose) Martinez, Ernie (Cathy) Duran, Ruby (Justin) Tidwell, Mary (Dave) Henry and Joey Duran. He had several Grandchildren, Great grandchildren and Great-great grandchildren.

The family would like to express our sincere gratitude to Frances (God sent caretaker) and First Choice Hospice for their compassion in caring for our father.
