Felipe (Phil) Marquez born February 20, 1951 in Chicago, IL, passed away peacefully in SLC at age 69 on February 6, 2021, after a courageous battle with complications associated with Type 1 Diabetes.

Son of Candido M. Marquez and Rosa Talamontez Marquez, Phil’s family moved to Santa Fe, NM when he was 6 and he later attended NM State University before relocating to SLC, UT. He worked at the Department of Transportation and the State of Utah. He then worked as a drafter/designer at Northwest Pipeline Corporation (which later became The Williams Company), where he met Linda Beth Krause whom he married in 1980. Their family became complete when they adopted daughter, Amy Leigh Marquez, in 1986.

One of Phil’s favorite hobbies was testing his marksmanship at the shooting range and later skeet shooting. He was also an avid photographer, and lover of fine arts. Phil was a loving husband and an amazing father, brother, uncle and friend. Though he will be deeply missed, we are so very blessed to have been able to know and love and learn from him. He will never be forgotten.

Preceded in death by his parents, a brother - Candi Marquez, a sister - Betty Sutton, and a brother-in-law Jim Sutton.

Survived by wife Linda and daughter, Amy. Also by sisters Connie (Jim) Nelson, Emelia Marquez; sister-in-law, Ellie Marquez; nieces Margo Morrissey, Lynda (Mimi Birth) Sutton, Sarah Crane, Katie Rossi; nephews, Andy Nelson and Adrien Marquez, plus 9 grandnieces/grandnephews. In addition, in Linda’s family, he had two sister-in-laws (their spouses) a brother-in-law, along with many nieces and nephews (and their spouses/children) who loved him dearly.

The family would like to thank the staff at St Joseph’s Villa for their compassionate care extended to Phil while he was there.

A viewing for family members only will be held Friday, February 12, 2021 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Larkin Sunset Lawn, 2350 E 1300 So, SLC, UT. Graveside services for family and friends will be at 11:00 a.m. outside at the same location. Masks are required.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) for the prevention and cure of Type 1 Diabetes and its complications through critical research.
