Felipe (Phil) Marquez born February 20, 1951 in Chicago, IL, passed away peacefully in SLC at age 69 on February 6, 2021, after a courageous battle with complications associated with Type 1 Diabetes.

Son of Candido M. Marquez and Rosa Talamontez Marquez, Phil’s family moved to Santa Fe, NM when he was 6 and he later attended NM State University before relocating to SLC, UT. He worked at the Department of Transportation and the State of Utah. He then worked as a drafter/designer at Northwest Pipeline Corporation (which later became The Williams Company), where he met Linda Beth Krause whom he married in 1980. Their family became complete when they adopted daughter, Amy Leigh Marquez, in 1986.

One of Phil’s favorite hobbies was testing his marksmanship at the shooting range and later skeet shooting. He was also an avid photographer, and lover of fine arts. Phil was a loving husband and an amazing father, brother, uncle and friend. Though he will be deeply missed, we are so very blessed to have been able to know and love and learn from him. He will never be forgotten.

Preceded in death by his parents, a brother - Candi Marquez, a sister - Betty Sutton, and a brother-in-law Jim Sutton.

Survived by wife Linda and daughter, Amy. Also by sisters Connie (Jim) Nelson, Emelia Marquez; sister-in-law, Ellie Marquez; nieces Margo Morrissey, Lynda (Mimi Birth) Sutton, Sarah Crane, Katie Rossi; nephews, Andy Nelson and Adrien Marquez, plus 9 grandnieces/grandnephews. Dad ( A.K.A El CHAPO),

am so sad I missed your funeral and the opportunity to say goodbye and tell you how much i love you and appreciate the kindness and compassion you have always showed me. I will never forget the first time you called me your "other" daughter...it still brings tears to my eyes. You knew my life story as you sat and listened to me tell it not because i was wanting to share it but because you wanted to hear it and you wouldnt stop bugging me about it...lol. And afterwards you had tears in your eyes and cried with me. I never told anyone about that. It was our special thing that I feel bonded us a real family. I will never forget you or the love you gave me willingly over the last 4 years. You have never judged me only encouraged me to chase my dreams and be patient with Amy.......im still being patient with her ....and i know you would be smiling at me from wherever you are as I write this. I was hoping you would walk me down the isle when I married your daughter but we"ll never know now and that makes my heart ache in ways I never imagined. I didnt know my real father but I am proud to say I was your daughter if only for a moment.....

i love you DAD,

CHRISTINA MARQUEZ
