Estella Dansie Benson

Jul 21, 1924 Sep 13, 2023

Estella Dansie Benson; Age 99. Estella passed away on September 13, 2023 in Holladay, UT; She was born on July 21, 1924, in Salt Lake City, UT to Mahonri Moriancumer and Lillie Estella Starling Dansie. She married Jesse Nathaniel Benson on March 25, 1946.

She graduated from South High School. She enrolled at West High School in a dressmaking class and became an excellent seamstress. She loved to quilt. She canned and she was a great cook. You couldn't leave her home without being offered a meal. She loved to crochet and even made an all crocheted bedspread. She made doilies and afghans which she would often give as gifts. She worked at the Downtown Salt Lake Post Office where she met her husband. After being married for six month, Jesse left to serve in the Eastern States Mission. Mother supported him for 16 months then was called to serve a short term mission as his companion. During that time she portrayed Mary the Mother of Jesus in the first Hill Cumorah Pageant after World War 2. She also served a mission in Morristown, NJ with two of her sisters-in-law. She loved Family History and Temple Work. Mother was an excellent typist, which she used her skills to type Dad’s papers as a Student and as a Teacher. She loved participating in Church Road Shows. She was a Relief Society President, which she loved and faithfully served in many other callings including being a devoted Visiting Teacher for many years. She loved dancing with her husband, she loved reading, assembling puzzles, and visiting with family. She was very patient and kind especially during times of emergencies, like when her daughter went to the French door glass windows and when the youngest had his finger slammed in the slider door. Mother had a great sense of humor right to the end. In 2009 the family celebrated her 85th Birthday, by surprising her with a party attended by most all of her family. To her, the greatest accomplishments were her children and their families. She loved the Gospel of Jesus Christ and was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Later-day Saints and taught her children by her example to love and serve others. Some of her last words to her loved ones were “Stay True to the Gospel.” She endured to the end.

As Mother was confined to bed for the last 2 years, we would like to thank Valeo for their excellent care in helping with Mom especially her Nurse Kim, and her main Aide Kylee and also Marie.

She is survived by her seven children: Jesse Benson (Sharon), Rachel Collette, Kathleen Alvey (Eric), Carolin Crosby (DW), Cheryl Charles (Mark), Jonathan, Dan Benson (Marjorie), many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her sweetheart Jesse Benson, Daughter-in-law Lisa Benson; Her parents, her parents-in-law; all her siblings and their spouses and all her husband’s siblings and their spouses; and her granddaughter, Krystal Egbert.
