Dr. Edward Carl Wall

Nov 25, 1939 Aug 10, 2024

Dr. Edward Carl Wall, loving husband, dedicated father and family man and loyal friend passed away on Saturday, August 10, 2024. He was surrounded by family at his side.

Ed was born on November 25, 1939, to Charles August and LaVeta Coleman Wall in Manti, Utah. He was an excellent student and had a lifelong love of learning about any subject or topic that piqued his interest. He graduated from East High School and then the University of Utah where he was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. He developed and maintained lifelong friendships through these formative years. In 1967 he graduated from the University of Washington, with honors, receiving a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree. In 1959, Ed joined the Utah National Guard and was activated during the Berlin crisis and sent to Fort Sam Houston Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas, where he trained as a dental assistant “a life changing experience,” - in his own words - which led to his dental career.

He practiced dentistry in Hawaii, California and Utah, spending thirty-five plus years building a successful practice delivering preventative and compassionate dental care. He took a genuine interest in each of his patients and delivered meticulous personalized care. His son, Charles Wall, carries on his legacy in providing family dental care.

Ed married Merrill LuAnne Smith, his college sweetheart in the Salt Lake Temple on June 26, 1964. Together they raised three children, Tyler, Amber and Charles. This past June, Ed and Merrill celebrated 60 years of life, love, travel, family and marriage together.

Ed was an adventurous traveler with Merrill by his side, visiting many states and foreign countries, typically with their dearest friends. His most cherished vacations were house boating on Lake Powell and trips to Hawaii and Mexico with his family.

Ed lived an active outdoor and sports lifestyle, was an excellent and self-taught skier for nearly 60 years, avid bird hunter, fisherman and enjoyed playing tennis and golfing. He was a loyal and lifelong fan of University of Utah football and basketball, as well as a passionate Utah Jazz fan. He loved driving his cars, in particular his Porsche(s) and had a tendency to drive fast and push them hard, which earned him the nickname “Fast Eddy” by many family members and friends.

Ed was our family rock - stable, fair minded, with a strong moral compass and a man with great integrity. He cherished spending time with his family and many lifelong friends. He is deeply loved and will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Ed is survived by his spouse, Merrill Wall; brother, Kelly Wall (Karla); children, Tyler (Heather), Amber (Nate Momberger), Charles (Lindsey); and seven grandchildren, Mckenzie (Brad), Jacob (Lexie), Ashley, Matthew, Cole, Parker, Jackson and one great grandchild, Hayden. He was preceded in death by his parents and older brother Bill who died of polio at the age of 15.

We will honor him and celebrate his life at Larkin Sunset Lawn, 2350 E. 1300 S., Salt Lake City on Saturday August 17, 2024, with a gathering of family and friends. There will be a visitation at 10:00 am with services following at 11:30 am. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery, Springville, Utah. For those unable to attend, services will be streamed via Zoom. Please visit Ed’s obituary page at www.larkinmortuary.com for information.

In lieu of flowers the family and Ed would be grateful for any donations to the charity of your choice or Give Kids A Smile (ADA foundation) - adafoundation.org.

The Wall family wishes to express our deep gratitude to family, friends, and home hospice caregivers for their loving support.
