Our beloved Doris Marie Tarbet Sweeten danced into this world June 24, 1928, in Burley, ID to loving parents Caroline (Kitty) Tarbet; a seamstress who tailored all her dresses so Doris always looked like a doll, and Bourke Dewain Tarbet a gentle man and a dairy farmer who tap danced with his darling daughter and caught her tears in a teacup! She waltzed through heaven’s gates on November 6, 2022, surrounded by loved ones. She lived an amazing 94 years!

Doris enjoyed a wonderful childhood in Burley, ID and Benson, UT with her siblings Bourke Dewain, Floyd Lee, James Lamar, Robert Max, Lois Jean, and Bonnie Ann. Doris loved her social life, she was homecoming queen, Seminary class president and secretary. She loved school, the many friends she made were friends for life.

She married the love of her life, and forever sweetheart Dewey H. Sweeten in 1947 in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they lovingly raised five children. Kandis (Denny) Jensen, Lori (Keith) Bird, Kellie (Mark) Cheever, Todd (Fran) Sweeten and Troy Sweeten. Together they created a strong family that worked together and played together! Doris and Dewey were very proud of their children. They brought great joy to their lives. Doris leaves a legacy of 72 +1 on the way, who will carry her immense love in their hearts. From her very own children to her great, great grandchildren, Doris has made each one feel so special and uniquely loved. She attended countless sporting events, music, and dance performances. Birthday parties and Halloween parades for her children and grandchildren, great grandchildren, and friends. Christmas was a very special time because of the joy Doris spread. The family always looked forward to the “Sweeten” Christmas party, where we grew from playing the part of baby Jesus, to having our children play the part. There were always multiple angles, naughty sheep and reluctant shepherds who sang off key, except for Grandpa who always sang perfect!

Doris was born with the gift of endless love and light, that she shared with every person she met.

Heavenly Father and our Savior were near and dear to her. This believing heart was shown in the way in which she embraced her ward family and served enthusiastically wherever she was needed through her church where she developed many friendships that are near and dear to her heart.

Doris brought many gifts to the world and will be dearly missed by every person she touched. She was a beautiful child who grew to be a beautiful woman, but it wasn’t just skin deep, her beauty shone from within and touched all around her. Her smile was an automatic and authentic gift that she gave every person she met. She had a special way of making everyone feel important and loved. She was a lifelong example of unconditional love, “Don’t cry because it is over, smile because it happened” Theodore Geisel (He wrote Dr Seuss) kindness, and devotion to her family. She was humble and grateful for her blessings, and she enjoyed all of life. We all feel blessed that we got to be a part of her life, to have been touched by her light. Her passing has brought tears but more gratitude that she lived and loved, and we got to be a part of it.

Mom was not at all worried about going to heaven, with so many loved ones waiting for her there. But she said, “I love life!”

“Don’t cry because it is over, smile because it happened” Theodore Geisel (He wrote Dr Seuss)

Describe fun...Aunt Doris! I keep getting flooded with colorful & vibrant images of this darling sweet aunt. How blessed am I to be able to recall with such warmth, love & tears this fine cute thing❤️My children, Randy & I suffered & survived a horrifying, heartbreaking event when our beloved son ( son) in law, Bob ,married to Laura our daughter, at 31 years strong suffered a massive stroke, at deaths door, our innocent Laura , with our cherrished grandson Lucas on her hip & 8 month old " AlyBugs in her tummy, we were knocked off our feet! This darling Doris & girls came to the farm to visit Rand & I, farms being muddy, smelling of " poop" & sounds & farm goin ons, she exited the car & in warm, loved tight hugged embrace, I could feel clear to my toes the genuine & sincere love she had for me & greeted me like I was royality, turning & waving her dainty cute arms & delicate fine boned hands gushed & marveled at our little farm & praised us for our hard work as if she was standing at the gates of the Ponderosa on Bonanza! Nothing phony or reheresed about her delivery, she was that happy to see us & our place. Our visit was short, well under a few hours is short for a Sweeten visit..lol In spite of residing hours away, she willingly offered to bring our family meals, service of any kind. Randy & I brought Lucas to live here, while exhausted Laura stayed vigil at Bobs hospital bed. My Aunti-Doris as I refer to her or my dads loved PetName for her ,my little " Dainty Doris"..lol..knowing there was a Lion in that Doris...she would have without hesitation ( but may have changed from her darling heels to a pair of MukBoots, she would have jumped in & cleaned horse stalls, cow droppings, clean coops, gather eggs, regardless the task, that Aunti would have jumped right in & worked, shared & giggled till the waiting chore was done! Service, she was born & raised & carried the genuine need & want to serve & provide for others & boy did she! As our visit wound down & Doris & Candy needing to leave, I felt heavier in faith, belief & hope that our needed & cheerished Bob, would return home to our Laura & babies. The love, grace, concern & empathy that flowed from Aunti during that visit was felt & I felt a blessing of faith & encouragement going forward with our darling little family. As we tightly embraced at the car, hot tears flowing, like they are now, that giving & gracious AuntiDoris leaning into my ear & saying " Now you just hush sweetie, take it, wish it were more, I love you all so much" she slipped a check into my hand & in being so humbled & amazed ,I sqeezed her again & tucked her into the car & stood bawling & waving as 2 of my favprite people in the world pulled away from the farm. This GIFT AuntiDoris shared is inherited by every dang one of her kids! You couldnt witness the cheerished goodbye her family prepared for her, be witness to her adored kids, my beloved couisins stand & proudly, choking back heartbreak & pain, fears & anxiety stand & share parts of their colorful lives with their Mom & family. Each of them recounting a memory, moment, event that entitled us a personal glimps into their loving & fun life with Doris. From gushing tears too amazement & pride to laughing hysterically, a Sweeten was telling a story, so all ears & eyes straight & alert, I could have sat for an entire day ( as long as I has Pepsi & numerous snacks)..sat a day amoungts her kids & grandkids & earnestly listened in sound & living color every word, thought, memory that they had to graciously share with us. Sweetens being natual ( and hysterical & sometimes a tad non revrent, but silly & nothing bad story tellers ...I would feel honored to be amoung the crowd of participants❤️ All 5 of my cheerished cousins, Dewey & Doris combined greatest accomplishments are their 5 children. My favorite madeup saying about that clan is " there ain't an ugly one amoung em" You look at Dewey & Doris Hollywood looks & can clearly understand why all 5 of their babies were born with a face thats easy to look at & pleasing to the eye...being up close & personal I know all 5 also have a heart as big as Texas & with high intelect, giving & sincere hearts, hard working & every one of them fun as can be, personality galore! You can't be in any of their presence for long where you don't walk away with a lighter step, a glow of warmth in your heart & a better outlook on your day. Troy, who with love & dedication saw to his Mama's needs & desires she requested help with, she was able to remain in her beautiful surroundings & area she loved. The boys fussed & toiled for their Mama & the 3 girls celebrated & fussed like Moms & Daughters do, the 5 kids together, their sposes & grandkids loved, fussed, shared, joined & were present whenever needed to ensure this beautiful, vibrant, fun loving, fun living, giving, sincere, genuine gracious Aunti Doris could live out her mortal time on earth, untill returning to the waiting loving arms of Dewey, they all saw Doris lived & florished in safety, comfort & forever surrounded by giving loving accepting arms of them all celebrating Doris & their lives together. Doris is amoung the knowing now & Doris & Dewey will now watch over & continue to love & bless their beloved family from the skies above. My dear cousins, nothing hurts more than saying goodbye to our parents, our hero', beacons, lighthouse, anchors & best friends, now lean on eachother & continue the Legacy of living an honest & good life, hard working, sharing, giving & spreading the radiance, joy & love your amazing Mama always did. Remembering when visiting, laughing & giggling, her bringing her dainty hands to cover her mouth & she would tip her head in laughter & tap my arm saying " you beautiful fun little stink" all with a sparkling, radiant twinkle in her eye" I loved & love this fine women who to put it in a nutshell...just wanted EVERYONE & EVERYTHING...happy,feeling love & safe..Thank you Aunti Doris for all the support, love & acceptance you gave me all my life, you will live on in my heart & memory forever. Cousins, sending a warm embrace filled with gratitude, faith, courage & hope that you're heavy hearts will soon lighten, replaced with remembrance & joyous celebration of you're cheerished Mama's life here on earth, she is a Diamond amoung all Jewells!

We moved into the ward when there were MANY other new people moving in. But Doris welcomed us personally with hugs on our first Sunday and many more. She always remembered us. I loved how happy she was to be involved in all the ward and neighborhood activities. She was an amazing and remarkable woman!

Darling Aunt Doris,

Your loving kindness in everything you did will always be most fondly remembered by me. You were like my 2nd mom and I am so grateful for all the sleepovers we kids shared with your family. You always had a smile and heartfelt greeting whenever we met and I knew you loved me unconditionally. I know you are now in the loving arms of your loved ones that have gone before you, including my dad. You have always been my favorite aunt and I love you infinity.
