Don Grant

Apr 30, 1931 Mar 10, 2024

Don Grant (92) died in his home on March 10, 2024 in West Valley City, Utah. He was born on April 30, 1931 in Billings, Montana to Viva Grant. He was raised by his Grandma Grant right along with his aunts and uncles who all played a part in his upbringing.

He married Colleen Meacham on August 3, 1956 and they immediately moved to Downey, California for work. They returned to Utah ten years later to live where his best friend, Howard Denny, had their house picked out just over his back fence. He was the oldest and longest living resident residing in the Candlestick Park neighborhood.

Don enjoyed fishing, hunting, and sports as a youth. He attended schools in Lovell, Wyoming, Rangely, Colorado, and Davis County, Utah, graduating from Davis High School in 1947. Don loved to attend football games at his alma mater, Davis High School, and anywhere the Darts were playing. He never missed an opportunity to watch high school, college or NFL football on TV and was always sad when the season ended. After High School, Don served in the United States Navy for 4 years and was a Yeoman second class.

Don attended college at the University of Utah and USC.

He made a career in the computer and data processing industry during its early days. He held leadership positions in the Data Processing departments of Hughes Aircraft, IML Freight, Holy Cross Hospital, Transportation Management Services (TMS), Associated Foods and Northwest Pipeline. He happily retired at age 55 and enjoyed serving two full time missions with his sweetheart. He also spent many years of dedicated church and temple service.

Don is survived by his five children, Craig M. Grant, Don Bart (Lelia) Grant, Pamela (Larry) Smith, Dona Schlappi, Dixy (Anthony) Broadhead and his beloved Aunt Elizabeth “Betty” Clark (Three years his senior.) who was more like a sister. 24 Grandchildren and 62 Great Grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his dear wife Colleen Meacham Grant, his mother, Viva Grant Dove, Sister, Fern Grant Olsen, Brother, Marvin Dove, Daughters-in-law Colleen Candland Grant, Cindy Banks Grant, Son-in-law Russell Schlappi.
