Diane Salazar, age 80, of Washington, Utah, passed away peacefully in her home on July 18, 2026, quietly surrounded by her family. She was born in Belen, New Mexico, to Frank and Julia Chavez.

Diane lived in Belen until the age of eight, when her family moved to Barstow, California She grew up in Barstow and attended Barstow High School. Throughout her life, she worked as both a security guard and a cook-roles she carried out with dedication and pride. She especially loved cooking New Mexico-style enchiladas, a dish she perfected over many years.

Diane was deeply involved in her community. She served as Vice President of the PTA at Lenwood Elementary School in Barstow CA, where she founded Parents at Lenwood (PAL). She organized the school's first Halloween Party and served as a Girl Scout Leader. Her service to the community earned her an Honorary Service Award from the City of Barstow.

She also had a passion for sewing, creating everything from potholders to blankets. Diane sold her handmade items at the local farmers market in Los Lunas, New Mexico. She loved reading and often said that books could take you to places you never dreamed of. Diane worked security for many years in New Mexico and later at Sierra Army Depot in Herlong, California.

One of Diane's greatest joys was going to the casino to play Keno. Her whole face would light up the moment someone said, "Let's go to the casino." She was always the first one in the car, ready for a night of fun. She could play into the early hours of the morning, smiling the entire time. Those moments brought her so much happiness, and her family loved seeing her joy.

Diane also had a deep love for music. From Rod Stewart to classic country, and especially the sound of mariachis, music always lifted her spirit. She loved to dance, moving with joy and energy whenever her favorite songs played. Her family will forever remember the way music made her smile and brought her to life.

In her later years, Diane found peace and joy in coloring. She created beautiful, vibrant pictures that her family will treasure forever. Each page she colored reflected her creativity, patience, and the gentle calm she carried within her.

Above all, Diane cherished time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was known for giving heartfelt advice and offering steady love to every member of her family.

She is the daughter of the late Frank and Julia Chavez. She is also preceded in death by her sisters, Beatrice Carpenter and Corrine Lynch; her brother, Peter Chavez; her grandson, David Silva; and her former husband, David Silva.

Diane is survived by her sister, Vera Baldwin; her son, Rick Silva of Herlong, CA; and her daughter, Annette Fields(Jonathan Fields) of Washington, UT. She is also survived by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Rachel and her husband Dustin Woodard, and their children DJ and Crew. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who loved her dearly.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 30, 2026, at the St. George Catholic Church, 259 W 200 N, St. George, Utah. The Rosary will begin at 10:00 AM, followed by the Funeral Mass at 11 :00 AM. Interment will take place at Tonaquint Cemetery, 1777 S Dixie Dr, St. George, Utah. A Celebration of Life will follow at Cafe Saber, 290 E St. George Blvd, at 3:00 PM.

Diane's legacy of love, service, and strength will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
