Dawn Casten, age 81, passed away on August 25, 2025 in Mt. Pleasant, Utah. She was the daughter of John Kenneth and Josephine Brown Hopkins, born on August 2, 1944 in Cedar City, Utah.
At the age of three her family moved to Richfield. Dawn graduated from Richfield High School in 1962.
The following year she married Roger Roberts. The couple lived in Monroe and had four children together. While raising her young children she worked full-time for Pacific Trail in Richfield where she was a seamstress.
When she divorced in 1981 Dawn decided to continue her education and as a single mother, she moved herself and the three younger siblings to Cedar City where she attended SUU (then SUSC) and received her degree in elementary education.
Payson Jr. High School offered Dawn her first teaching job where she served as the school librarian. A few years later she moved north and taught in Granite School District at several different elementary schools over the course of her almost twenty year career.
Dawn met her soul mate Henry "Hank" Casten in 1987 and a year later they were married. The pair enjoyed traveling, raising animals and most of all thrifting.
Dawn was a gifted woman of abundant talent. In her hands a single piece of fabric became a masterpiece. From quilts to bridal gowns (and everything in between) she had no limits at the sewing machine. She created beautiful stained glass pieces, water color paintings and quilts that her family will cherish forever.
She is preceded in death by her husband Henry Casten, her mother Josephine Hopkins, her father John Kenneth Hopkins, an infant brother Kenneth Hopkins and her youngest sister Cheryl Hopkins.
