DaVona D. Baum
1950 - 2021
DaVona D. Baum, 70, returned to her Heavenly Father and was joyously reunited with her husband, son, and other lost loved ones, on Saturday, June 20, 2021. DaVona was born on December 20, 1950 in the Provo Hospital to Leo S. Defa and Nettie Lazenby. The youngest of four siblings, DaVona was raised in a happy, loving home in Hanna, Utah. Their home was always full of music. DaVona played the electric guitar and the concertina, and loved to dance. Her rich family history was a source of great pride and gratitude all throughout her life.
She married Robert Phillip Baum on June 23, 1969. Together they built their life and home in Hanna, and were blessed to live next door to DaVona’s parents, surrounded by family. Bob and DaVona solemnized their marriage for time and all eternity in the Provo Temple on June 23, 1993.
DaVona taught school in Tabiona, and fostered a love of reading in her students. She also sold Home Interiors for many years, and in 2001 opened her boutique, the Old Mill Gift Shop. DaVona was always in awe of the natural beauty all around her, and the world will forever be a more beautiful place because of her. She found joy in working with flowers, whether she was exercising her great talent for making flower arrangements, or planting petunias and pansies in her flower beds. She passed this love of the earth’s beauty to her children and grandchildren.
DaVona was happiest when visiting with friends and family, and was always making new friends and welcoming new members of the family. Everyone who knew her said she was the sweetest lady they had ever met. Her door was always open, and nobody left her home without a full belly or a place to sleep.
As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, she had a strong testimony and many callings. She found much fulfillment in being called to a service mission to index genealogical records from Italy.
She is survived by daughters Trudy (Jay) Glazier of Heber, Sheri Baum of Midvale, and son Nick (Tara) Baum of Herriman; granddaughters Sheryl (Patrick) Matthews, Kazya (Caden) Clayton, Mary Baum, and Rylan Baum; grandsons Duke (Mattie) Faircloth, and Clay (Rylie) Glazier; great-granddaughters Lucille, Lila, and Josie; and brother Larry (Sheila) Defa of Hanna.
Preceded in death by her husband Bob; son Vernon Baum; parents Leo S. and Nettie Defa; and sisters Joy and Lena.

Davona and I have been friends since we started Kindergarten in the same class. We have remained friends throughout all these years and I have great love and respect for her. She was such a wonderfully talented lady and her sweet quiet friendly manner always made me feel comfortable in visiting with her and being dear friends with her. I love her dearly and I will truly miss her. I pray that angels will comfort Davona’s family and bless them.
