David Charles Caldwell

Aug 3, 1939 – Oct 2, 2026

David Charles Caldwell, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 2, 2026, at the age of 87.

David was born on August 3, 1939, in Cardston, Alberta, Canada, to Charles Caldwell and Venna Mae Pitcher Caldwell. He grew up on a farm in southern Alberta, where he developed the values of hard work, resilience, and self-reliance that would guide him throughout his life. As a young man, he worked as a cowhand on a large ranch in southern Alberta and embodied the spirit of a true cowboy. He was an accomplished horseman and rodeo cowboy, carrying with him a love of the western way of life throughout his years.

Dave attended Ricks College, where he met the love of his life, Linda Thompson, a Rexburg native. Their meeting began a lifelong partnership built on love, devotion, and shared faith. Dave and Linda were married on May 12, 1962, and together built a remarkable life spanning more than six decades. He later attended Brigham Young University, where he earned a degree in Electrical Engineering.

After graduating from BYU, Dave accepted a position with IBM. He and Linda packed up their young family and headed for the big-city life of San Jose, California, beginning a new adventure together. They spent the next 12 years in San Jose before moving to Morgan Hill, California, where they raised their family and created many treasured memories.

Dave enjoyed a successful career in the technology industry, beginning with IBM and concluding with Western Digital. His work took him throughout Asia and provided many opportunities and experiences throughout his professional life. Following retirement, Dave and Linda moved to St. George, Utah, in 1999, where they enjoyed being closer to family and the community they grew to love.

Dave also had a spirit of adventure and a love of the outdoors. He enjoyed dirt bike riding well into his seventies, and especially loved riding with his son Ryan, creating memories that they both treasured. Later in life, he especially enjoyed coyote hunting with his sons Ryan and Darcy. He also had a lifelong passion for firearms and enjoyed collecting, building, and using guns, a hobby that reflected his curiosity, craftsmanship, and appreciation for precision.

Dave and Linda built a life together centered on family, faith, hard work, and service. Over their 64 years of marriage, they raised their family, supported one another through life's experiences, and enjoyed retirement together in St. George. Dave especially enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Dave is survived by his wife, Linda Thompson Caldwell; his children, Christie Sotelo (Steve), Karen Greenhalgh (Chris), and Kenneth Caldwell (Adrianna); 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by his siblings Cliff Caldwell, Shirley Edwards, Ted Caldwell, Kel Caldwell, Merle Blumell, and Barbara Latham.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Venna Mae Caldwell; his sons, Darcy Caldwell and Ryan Caldwell; his sister, Betty Caldwell; and his brother, Gordon Caldwell.

While Dave enjoyed a successful career, exciting adventures, and many hobbies, those who knew him best knew that his greatest loves were his Savior, Jesus Christ, and his wife, Linda. He treasured his family and loved studying the Book of Mormon.

Though deeply missed, his memory will remain a treasured blessing to his family and friends. He will be remembered for his love of Jesus Christ, his devotion to Linda and his family, his cowboy spirit, his lifelong pursuit of learning, his adventurous nature, and his gentle influence for good.

Services will be held on Thursday, October 8, 2026 at the Winchester Hills 2nd Ward Chapel, 5338 Winchester Dr, St. George, Utah.
