Charles Edward Ku’uipo Kalua’u, aged 60, passed away at home on Wednesday, November 18, 2020, encircled by his family. Charles was born in Kealakekua, Hawaii, on September 5, 1960, to Walter and Louise (Kalua’u) Lee. In 1986, he married his sweetheart and best friend, Shauna Lee Holt, and they were sealed for time and eternity in the Salt Lake Temple on April 27, 1991. They raised their two children, Ethan and Rachel, in Spanish Fork, Utah.

No words could ever be equal to the measure of his character and his love.

Charles mastered the most important parts of life and unwaveringly and proudly devoted his life—his time, his hobbies, and all his efforts—to his family and to the gospel. He was a bright light of positivity and happiness. Gentle and kind, he was an amazing example of Christlike love. His few but well-chosen words showed love and respect for everyone, and he made sure that every person within his sphere of influence felt accepted and special.

Though he served in many Church callings, Charles’s favorite callings were Sunday School President and his many callings in Scouting. In his twenty years as part of the scouting community, he influenced the lives of many young men for good. As an Eagle Counselor, one of his greatest joys was helping boys achieve the rank of Eagle.

Charles graduated with a Bachelor of Visual Arts from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, in 1999. He saw the world through an artist’s eye and found beauty in the details. He shared his view of the world and helped others to see that every dream can be achieved through hard work and dedication.

Charles’s family and friends love him deeply and are proud to know that his love will live on in the lives of those he served. They find joy in knowing that he will now be able to look after and care for them and so many others in an even greater capacity. We look forward to our day of reunion.

Charles is preceded in death by his mother Louise Kainulama Kalua’u Lee. Charles is survived by his cherished wife, Shauna Lee Kalua’u; his children: Ethan and Cate Kalua’u and Rachel and Justin Hulet; his granddaughter, Evelyn Kalua’u; his father, Walter Lee; and his siblings: Walter Jr. and Marilou Lee, Louise Matsumoto, and Paula and Jerry Hiraishi.

Visitation for the community, friends, and family will be held on Friday, December 4, 2020, from 6-8 p.m. at Walker Funeral Home, 187 South Main Street, Spanish Fork, Utah 4860. There will be a private family viewing on Saturday, December 5, 2020, from 10-10:45 a.m. at Walker Funeral Home, followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. (for attendance by family only). The funeral service will be broadcast livestream for any family or friends who cannot attend in person. Interment will be at Spanish Fork City Cemetery.
