Carey was born the fourth child of eleven to Frank Jr. and Julia M. Serassio. Carey graduated from the University of Utah in 1998 with degrees in political science and philosophy, and the University of Utah S.J. Quinney College of Law in 2002 with her Juris Doctorate.

Carey was an esteemed attorney. Her legal acumen, compassion for people, and her devotion to the practice of law made her a shining star in the legal community. Before she retired from practice in April 2021, Carey was a Senior Associate with Dyer Law Group. Carey was highly respected by her peers who gave her a ‘Preeminent AV Ranking’ in 2010. She was a member of the U.S. Supreme Court Bar, the Utah State Bar, and Federal Court Bar, as well as the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, American Association of Justice and Utah Association of Justice (co-founder of the Women’s Caucus, created 2013).

Carey married Matthew (Matt) Seager on July 10, 2003, at Log Haven in Millcreek Canyon. They soon bought a home in South Jordan, not far from family. This is fitting because Carey loved spending time with her family.

Carey was a lover of gardening, cooking (especially with or for loved ones), golfing, camping, fishing, reading, traveling and spending time in nature-particularly the beach. Carey was always up for any party or trip with her family. Spending time with her nieces and nephews brought her boundless joy. In July 2022, Carey had one last trip to Trinidad, California recreating childhood memories and making new memories with her family.

Carey was the light and heart of her family. Carey was the best daughter, wife, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend that anyone could be blessed to have in their life. To know Carey was to love her. Carey’s courage, caring heart, and love will live on in every one of us who knew her and loved her.

Carey is survived by her husband Matt Seager; parents Frank Jr. and Julia Serassio; ten siblings Melanie Serassio (Tenari), Frank Serassio III (Bryn), Helen Serassio, Julie Serassio, Serena Serassio, Joseph Serassio, Crystal Benally (Shawn), Tony Serassio, Lisa Serassio, and Sonya Serassio; her in-laws Phil and Heidi Seager, Brett Seager, and Bart Seager; and her nieces and nephews Demetrio, Sobrina, Alonzo, Samson, Emri, Jax, Jacob, Benson, and Briggs.

Carey was preceded in death by her grandparents Frank and Mary Serassio, and Howard and Elva Carlson.

Words cannot describe how thankful we are for Dr. Jonathan Whisenant and the countless dedicated health care professionals who passionately fought to give us two more years with Carey and treated her as if she was one of their own.

Carey will be greatly missed by her husband, parents, siblings, in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
