Carey was born the fourth child of eleven to Frank Jr. and Julia M. Serassio. Carey graduated from the University of Utah in 1998 with degrees in political science and philosophy, and the University of Utah S.J. Quinney College of Law in 2002 with her Juris Doctorate.

Carey was an esteemed attorney. Her legal acumen, compassion for people, and her devotion to the practice of law made her a shining star in the legal community. Before she retired from practice in April 2021, Carey was a Senior Associate with Dyer Law Group. Carey was highly respected by her peers who gave her a ‘Preeminent AV Ranking’ in 2010. She was a member of the U.S. Supreme Court Bar, the Utah State Bar, and Federal Court Bar, as well as the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, American Association of Justice and Utah Association of Justice (co-founder of the Women’s Caucus, created 2013).

Carey married Matthew (Matt) Seager on July 10, 2003, at Log Haven in Millcreek Canyon. They soon bought a home in South Jordan, not far from family. This is fitting because Carey loved spending time with her family.

Carey was a lover of gardening, cooking (especially with or for loved ones), golfing, camping, fishing, reading, traveling and spending time in nature-particularly the beach. Carey was always up for any party or trip with her family. Spending time with her nieces and nephews brought her boundless joy. In July 2022, Carey had one last trip to Trinidad, California recreating childhood memories and making new memories with her family.

Carey was the light and heart of her family. Carey was the best daughter, wife, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend that anyone could be blessed to have in their life. To know Carey was to love her. Carey’s courage, caring heart, and love will live on in every one of us who knew her and loved her.

Carey is survived by her husband Matt Seager; parents Frank Jr. and Julia Serassio; ten siblings Melanie Serassio (Tenari), Frank Serassio III (Bryn), Helen Serassio, Julie Serassio, Serena Serassio, Joseph Serassio, Crystal Benally (Shawn), Tony Serassio, Lisa Serassio, and Sonya Serassio; her in-laws Phil and Heidi Seager, Brett Seager, and Bart Seager; and her nieces and nephews Demetrio, Sobrina, Alonzo, Samson, Emri, Jax, Jacob, Benson, and Briggs.

Carey was preceded in death by her grandparents Frank and Mary Serassio, and Howard and Elva Carlson.

Words cannot describe how thankful we are for Dr. Jonathan Whisenant and the countless dedicated health care professionals who passionately fought to give us two more years with Carey and treated her as if she was one of their own.

Carey will be greatly missed by her husband, parents, siblings, in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, December 3rd at 11:00 AM at Larkin Mortuary Riverton, 3688 West 12600 South, Riverton. Dear Matt and Family,

I recently became aware of Carey's passing and wish to pass along my heartfelt condolences to you.

Carey was such a dynamic and energetic woman and I loved our discussions and sporadic lunch opportunities. I feel so fortunate that I got to rub shoulders with such an amazing, good, and charismatic soul!

Wishing you comfort, strength and peace during this tender time - as well as, smiles and laughter as you reflect on your memories of Carey.

Warmly,

Carey not only had a bright legal mind but she was a bright light wherever she went. Her spirit was strong and attractive which was evidenced by her large group of friends and loving family. She had the ability to be kind and strong at the same time. As a fellow attorney I observed her ability to handle and diffuse tense situations with ease. And her sense of humor and authentic smile were always a delight to encounter. Her beautiful spirit will be missed in this world.

We are so sorry for this loss. Carey will be sorely missed. Feels like it was just yesterday we were hanging out showing us the ins and outs of craps. Those were some fun times. I wish for the most comfort possible grieving through these hard times.

I always felt like Carey was one of the truly good people in the world. I was lucky to meet her through our jobs. When my son was going through some medical stuff she always called to check on me and see how things were going. I remember her telling me all the wonderful things she was doing with her nieces and nephews. My heart aches for her family and friends. Thoughts and prayers to all of them.

Serena,

I am so very sorry for your loss. Words fall drastically short in attempting to comfort one during this time, but know you and your family are in my prayers. Praying you feel comfort in the arms of your family and your Heavenly Father as He carries you through this season. You are loved greatly. Please don't hesitate to reach out for anything.

I am so sorry to hear of Carey's passing. Carey was my opposing counsel in a significant personal injury case a few years ago. She was a terrific advocate for her elderly client, and took compassionate care of the lady as she helped her get a fair result. Carey had a wonderful smile and friendly manner, and she always treated her adversaries with respect and kindness. She was truly one of our best. We will be thinking of your family.

I went to law school with Carey and especially remember her kindness. I lost a sister who battled cancer for 10 years and while I will never be able to fully appreciate the depths of your loss, I know it must be beyond difficult. I am sending you all peace, light and hope. I am so sorry. Cecilia.
