1950-2022

Brenda Madsen Mecham of Fountain Green, Utah passed away December 2, 2022 at the age of 72 after a long battle of cancer.

Brenda was born in Logan, Utah and was the oldest child of Blanche Zollinger Madsen and Delbert Murray Madsen. She grew up in Providence, Utah on a farm where she developed a lifelong pioneer spirit and work ethic that she was known for. She later moved to Salt Lake City as a teenager.

She received a Bachelor’s and Master's degree in Special Education from Utah State University. Brenda taught special education for many years. She was active in the Special Olympics with her junior high students.

Brenda married Claude Douglas Mecham in the Salt Lake Temple on June 15, 1979. They were married 43 years, raised 7 children and had 15 grandchildren.

Brenda loved the Lord which was evident in her life long service in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints where she served in various church callings. She served in the Switzerland-Zurich mission (1973-1975) and afterwards, worked in the Bern Switzerland Temple. She shared missionary experiences with her husband Claude serving as stake missionaries in Salt Lake City and long-serving cast missionaries in the Mormon Miracle Pageant.

Brenda was avid in family history and temple work including serving in the Jordan River Temple for many years.

Music and travel were also important to Brenda and she shared that with her family. She made sure all of her children learned a musical instrument and would regularly put on Christmas programs for neighbors and the community. She was a virtuoso pianist, accompanying many choirs including the performance of Handel’s Messiah with her church choir.

Brenda’s love of travel grew when touring Israel and Europe after her LDS mission. She wanted her family to experience travel. With her husband Claude they took the family on numerous trips both domestic and international.

Brenda was actively involved in her community. She was involved with Toys for Tots, CERT, 4H, and local political delegations, as well as many other service opportunities. She continually looked for opportunities to serve and be involved.

Brenda is survived by her husband Claude, Children: Carolyn Matthews (Jacob), Jacqueline Jenson (Jacob), Michelle Hutchinson (Scott), Jacob Mecham (Rebecca), David Mecham, Mary Christensen (Keith). Her brother Brent (LaDawna) Madsen.
