How does one write the story of a life? Perhaps it is easiest to start at the end: On Sunday, March 19th, 2023, Becci Lyn Pehrson joyously reunited with her parents Gary and Sherrie. This reunion came after a two-and-a-half year health struggle and a pancreatic cancer diagnosis in February 2021. However, her focus was never on “fighting” cancer or running away from death. Instead, she focused on living while she was here and spending time with those she loved and those that loved her. And until the end, she showed her trademarked positivity and hopefulness, regardless of any struggle.
Becci was born November 3rd, 1976 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was the first child of Gary and Sherrie Pehrson. Becci graduated with the class of 1995 from Murray High School. From the beginning, hers was a life lived for others: she was a devoted daughter, sister, niece, cousin, and a fierce and loyal friend. She found joy in discovering and trying new places to eat, no matter where she was. A culinary school student at Johnson & Wales University in Denver, Becci had a passion for cooking, but perhaps what she loved more was sharing it with anyone who wanted to learn.
In fact, it is easiest to talk about Becci through the lens of the things she loved because Becci was full of love. She loved Disney—some of her favorite moments were spent traveling with her friends and family to the Disney parks. She loved traveling to visit others and to see the world. She loved her dogs. She loved movies. She loved Costco. She loved her friends. She loved her family. And she loved Christ.
Through her last couple of years, Becci had so many health care professionals and others that helped her. She wanted them all to know how thankful she was for their hard work. And she wanted to give a special thank you to Dr. Mark A. Lewis, whose medical skill, warm heart, and Scottish accent helped her beyond what words can express.
Becci loved working with URS/PEHP for the past 10 years. Her family would like to thank them for their kindness and willingness to work with her, and support her, in her time of need.
Becci was preceded in death by her parents Gary and Sherrie; her grandparents Gwendolyn and John Petrovich, and Darrell and Dorothy Pehrson; and four-legged family members, Sheba and Muffin.
She is survived by her wonderful trio of sisters Jaime, Lisa, and Paige; her beloved aunts, uncles, cousins; and Koa, Kona, and Kai—her dogs and furry children.
Becci’s final wish, a wish that was miraculously granted on her last full day in this life, was to have friends and family gather together with her for a celebration of a life well lived. Becci asked that we all remember her with a smile, that we forget the suffering and think only of the joys, and most importantly, that we take care of those she left behind (both two-legged and four).
A viewing will be held on Thursday, March 23rd, 2023 from 10:00 to 10:45 AM at Larkin Sunset Gardens. 1950 E. Dimple Dell Road (10600 S.), Sandy, UT 84092. A graveside service will follow at 11:00 AM, interment will take place also at Larkin Sunset Gardens.
