Anselmo Rafael Brito

On Sunday afternoon of December 13, 2020, our beloved Anselmo “Rafael” Brito, father of four children, eight grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren, peacefully passed away at the age of 85. Rafael reunited with his loving wife Norma on the eve of their wedding anniversary. Rafael was born on August 8, 1935, to Pablo Aguilera and Paula Brito in the Island of Margarita, Venezuela. Rafael was studious and determined. In 1959, overcoming his humble beginnings, he graduated as a Clinical Lab Scientist from the University of Los Andes in Merida, Venezuela. After graduation, Rafael moved to El Tigre, Venezuela. In El Tigre, Rafael spearheaded the development of the only clinical laboratory, at that time, which earned him the respect of the medical and the healthcare community. He also met the love of his life, Norma, and married her on December 14, 1960. Rafael and Norma began a family and moved to Caracas, where he continued his exceptional work as a laboratory clinician. Rafael was a man of faith; whose story is one of determination and desire. He joined the Church of Jesus Crist of Latter-Day Saints in 1972, and on August 23, 1975, Rafael and his family were sealed for time and eternity in the Provo, Utah Temple. Rafael served the Lord with humility and devotion and held several callings, most recently he was a Patriarch. Rafael was an exemplary man, a devoted husband, an outstanding father, and a model son of our Heavenly Father. He was full of love for everyone who entered his life, be it family or a stranger on the street, and always ensuring that everyone was fed. In 1992, Rafael and his wife moved to the United States. Rafael loved this country and the opportunities it gives to hardworking people. Rafael, better known as Rafa, Rafita, Papito, or simply Papi, lived a life of selfless generosity and service, dedication, hard work, resilience, tolerance, and honesty. We will forever miss his smile, his laugh, and his mischievous antics.

Anselmo Rafael was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Norma Leonella, and his grandson Jonathan. He is survived by his children Katherine (Chris), Jose Rafael, Norman (Jessica) and Karina (Eric), his grandchildren Shantal (Ashley), Sharidan, Shawn (Jessica), Janelle (Jill), Justin (Sami), Janessa (Aaron) and Jessica (Braxton) and his great-grandchildren Cecelia and Alec. He will be missed by his many brothers and sisters, including Pablo Aguilera and Mireya Brito, in-laws, colleagues, and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Due to COVID restrictions live attendance to his funeral is limited to immediate family members. There will be virtual events; details can be found below.

En la tarde del 13 de Diciembre del 2020, nuestro amado Anselmo “Rafael” Brito, padre de cuatro hijos, ocho nietos, y dos bisnietos, falleció a la edad de 85 años. Se reunió con su amada esposa Norma en la víspera de su aniversario de bodas. Rafael nació el 8 de Agosto de 1935, en la Isla de Margarita en Venezuela; sus padres fueron Pablo Aguilera y Paula Brito. Rafael fué siempre muy estudioso y determinado. En 1959, superando su origenes humildes, se graduó de la Escuela de Bioanálisis de la Universidad de Los Andes en Mérida, Venezuela. Después de graduarse, se mudó a la ciudad de El Tigre, Venezuela, dónde se desempeñó como el único Bioanalista en ese entonces, siendo reconocido por el gremio de salud por su ética de trabajo y profesionalismo. Fué allí dónde conoció al amor de su vida, Norma, uniéndose en matrimonio el 14 de Diciembre de 1960. Juntos comenzaron una familia y se mudararon a Caracas, dónde el continuó su noble carrera professional. Rafael era un hombre de fé y un ejemplo de dedicación, servicio y amor al prójimo, así como tolerancia, respeto, y honestidad. Rafael se bautizó en la Iglesia de Jesucristo de los Santos de los Ultimos Días en el año 1972, y el 23 de Agosto de 1975, Rafael y su familia se sellaron por tiempo y eternidad en el Templo de Provo, Utah. Rafael sirvió al Señor con devoción y humildad, y ejerció varios cargos en la Iglesia, incluyendo su llamamiento como Patriarca. En 1992, Rafael immigró con su esposa a los Estados Unidos, país que amó y respetó por todas las oportunidades que ofrece a quiénes se esfuerzan. Rafael fué un esposo amoroso, un padre ejemplar, un excelente professional y un excepcional hijo de Dios. Albergó en su casa a amigos, familiares y a extraños por igual, y siempre aseguró que en su mesa todos quedaran saciados. Extrañaremos infinitamente su sonrisa, sus chistes jocosos, su picardía, sus oportunos consejos, y sus refranes. Amaba a su familia como ningún otro, y disfrutaba socializar, los juegos de mesa, las reunions familiares, y cocinar.

Anselmo Rafael es precedido por sus padres, su esposa Norma Leonella, y por su nieto Jonathan. Es sobrevivido por sus hijos Katherine (Chris), Jose Rafael, Norman (Jessica) y Karina (Eric), sus nietos Shantal (Ashley), Sharidan, Shawn (Jessica), Janelle (Jill), Justin (Sami), Janessa (Aaron) y Jessica (Braxton) y por sus bisnietos Cecelia y Alec. El será recordado por sus numerosos hermanos, incuyendo Pablo Aguilera y Mireya Brito, sus cuñados, colegas, primos, sobrinos, y amigos. Debido a restricciones motivadas por el COVID, los servicios funerarios presenciales estarán reservados para familiars immediatos solamente.
