Alice Merrill Jacobsen returned peacefully to her Heavenly Father, surrounded by family, on June 19, 2024 at the age of 90. She was born to Horatio Harris Merrill and Millie Hardy in Las Vegas, NV on September 16, 1933. Her family later moved to LaVerkin, UT where she grew up and attended school. Her family would eventually move to Salt Lake City, however she remained in LaVerkin, living with her Uncle Sheldon and Aunt Myrtle while she completed her senior year of high school. That year changed her life forever. Aunt Myrtle's kind and caring nature had a huge impact on who Alice would become. After graduating from Hurricane High School in May 1951, she moved to Salt Lake City, reuniting with her family and, ultimately, meeting her sweetheart, Lowell Jacobsen at a church function. Alice and Lowell were soon sealed together on June 27, 1952 in the Salt Lake Temple. They lived in the Poplar Grove area over the next 48 years, where they raised their five children. In the year 2000, they left their home in Salt Lake City and moved to South Jordan.
Alice accomplished many things throughout her life, including attending Salt Lake Community College to pursue an associate's degree. She also attended Reflexology, where she graduated with honors. She was the best at giving foot massages.
Alice had developed many talents throughout her life. She found great joy in Music, cooking, swimming, gardening, sewing, and quilting. Over the years she would make many things for her friends, family, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Such items she was known to make are snakes, sock monkeys, embroidered towels, temple envelopes, aprons and countless quilts. When someone in her family celebrated a significant life event, she would always make something specific for that person in commemoration.
Alice was known for speaking her mind, often unfiltered and completely honest. However, she would always make sure that those she shared conversations with knew she loved them. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren knew her as the world’s best and most imaginative storyteller. She loved hearts and would remark that after she left this world, a heart shape would remind her family that she was there saying "Hello." Her favorite word was “Always”. The most common phrase she would use was, “Always remember, I love you”.
Alice loved children, which inspired her to become a nanny. The children she cared for were always loved as her own and this love helped shape their lives. She was so proud of all they accomplished.
She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and Christian. As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints she served in numerous callings some of which included Young Women’s President, Primary Chorister, and as a devoted ministering sister. She loved the gospel of Jesus Christ with all her heart and cherished her "direct line to Heavenly Father." Her testimony strengthened all who knew her. Her faith was one of her Gifts from God. She knew he Loved her. She had a gift of Comforting others.
Alice was a very outgoing person and made it her goal to make everyone she met her friend. Because of this, she made friends easily and garnered their love and respect. She was always smiling. One of her very close friends said, “She was the most amazing woman to walk on this earth”.
