Alger “Big Al” Clarence Harding, 66 years old, of West Jordan, Utah, passed away on February 5, 2021.

Alger was born in Lynwood, California on February 3, 1955 at St. Francis Hospital to Marqueritte and Leamon.

Al attended Manual Arts High School. In 1974, he had met Lynn James and they had married and from that union they had twins Algenia Harding and Algeria Harding.

Alger moved to Salt Lake City, Utah to start his career working as an Engineer at Union Pacific Railroad for 30 years. Alger was into hot wheels, hot rods and building custom cars, He was fortunate enough to retire and live out his passion of building and restoring classic cars. He entered in almost every car show and was a part of several car clubs over the years. Big Al was a current member of The Imperials Car Club.

In 1989, Alger became a Grandfather and he rushed to California to see the bundle of joy and ended up adopting his grandchild and he named her Alee Cymah, so that she could have the same initials as him. Both he and his then wife Laverna Jordan raised her as their own.

Alger found a connection and comfort in a very special friend Pat Brown of whom he’d spend the last of his days with.

Alger is survived by his siblings Cora Mills and Evelyn “Sunshine” Walker; his daughters, Algenia Harding, Algeria Harding and Alee Harding; and Sons, Alfie Lamont Lewis, Terrance Jordan and Thanton Jordan, Grandchildren: Codee Lewis, Jade Lewis, Mai’kel Arman Enoch, Jasmine Johnson, Geneva Pearson, Rejine Harding, Ajahmu Alger Browne and Angel Browne; Great Grandchildren: Armani Pearson, Journey Welch, Rahim Harding, J’da Welch, London and Ka’jai Enoch and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family, extended family and friends.

Alger is preceded in death by parents Marqueritte and Leamon; siblings, Carol, Neamon, Leamon Jr., and George Jr.

Big Al always found the time for others who needed his helping hand. We will all miss him for being outspoken, loveable, making everyone laugh, being a good hearted person and a Classic Man.

FOOTPRINTS POEM

One night a man had a dream. He dreamed he was walking along the beach with the Lord. Across the sky flashed scenes from his life. For each scene, he noticed two sets of footprints in the sand; one belonging to him and the other to the LORD.

When the last scene of his life flash before him, he looked back at the footprints in the sand. He noticed that many times along the path of his life there was only One set of foot prints. He also noticed that it happened at the very lowest and saddest times of his life.

This really bothered him and he questioned the LORD about it. “LORD you said that once I decided to follow you, you’d walk with me all the way. But I have noticed that during the most troublesome times in my life, there is only one set of footprints. I don’t understand why, when I needed you most, you would leave me.”

The LORD replied “my precious child, I love you I would never leave you. During your times of trial and suffering when you see only one set of prints it was then that I carried you”.
