Albert LeRoy (Le) Lewis Jr

Aug 28, 1948 Jun 12, 2023

Albert LeRoy (Le) Lewis Jr passed away on June 12, 2023, 74, in West Valley City, Utah surrounded by his family. He was born on August 28, 1948 in Salt Lake City to his parents Albert (Bert) LeRoy Lewis Sr and Marian Lewis.

Le was a devoted and persistent husband and father who emphasized the values of family, service, and structure. This passion could easily be seen in his daily devotion to explaining his BDUs (uniform) to his kids in their early life.

He met Regina “Gene” Hill and was married in Augusta, Georgia on April 6, 1979. By the time of his passing, he was the proud father of six children and grandfather to 17 grandchildren and great-grandfather to 10.

As an Elder in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he began to faithfully serve our country in the United States Army for what would become a 29 year career, accomplishing the rank of Master Sergeant. While enlisted, he also worked for the Utah Department of Transportation and retired after 20 years of service. He was always a committed member of the local community – giving his time to mission work, families with food insecurity and helping others find work through LDS employment service. He and Gene were lucky to serve a mission together in Utah.

Le is survived by his wife Gene, his six children: Donna Kelton (Bob McCulley), James Helms (fiancé Christie), Mike Rathgeber (Tiffany), Suzi Lewis Mealing (Glen), Lorie Lewis MacDonald (Bryan), Kevin Le Lewis (Becki), as well as 17 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Additionally, he is survived by siblings: Barbara Teague Youngblood, Linda Busby, Rick Lewis (Connie), Chuck Lewis (Diane), his sisters-in-law Jane Webb & Jan Webb, and many others in the extended family.

Le is preceded in death by his father Albert LeRoy Lewis Sr (Bert), his mother Marian Lewis, brothers Alvin Webb and Norman Webb, sister Marilyn Safford, and granddaughter Jordyn Winters.
