Alan Winn Potter

Alan Winn Potter moved on to his next adventure on April 11, 2021 in Bountiful, UT. He passed away after a long fought battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 70 years young.

Alan was born in St. George, UT on January 5, 1951 to Dellon Gardner Potter and Magda Jean Winn. He was the youngest of 7 children. Alan was raised in Henderson, NV. He spent much of his childhood playing with his nieces and nephews, being teased by his older siblings and riding horses with his father. As a teenager, Alan discovered his love of motorcycles and cars. The first motorcycle he owned was a Honda S90. Alan also discovered his life long love of rock music during his teen years. His favorite band was the Moody Blues. Music and cars were the great joys of Alan’s life. His favorite places to be were either at a concert or going to the drag races.

Alan spent much of his professional career working in Information Technology and Utility Services. He worked for various utility companies in the Las Vegas area beginning in the 1970s and through the early 2000s. Most recently he worked for Pacificorp in Kemmerer, WY. Alan was a hard worker and deeply committed to his career.

Alan spent much of his adulthood in Overton, NV. While a member of the Overton 3rd Ward, he met his beloved wife, Ellen at a ward party at Warm Springs. He was attracted to her beautiful blue eyes and she loved his curly red hair and beard. They were sealed together for time and all eternity in the Las Vegas Nevada Temple on April 27, 1991. Together they raised four children and now are the proud grandparents of 3 granddaughters and 2 grandsons. Alan deeply loved his family and considers them his greatest accomplishment. In 2010, Alan and Ellen moved to Kemmerer, WY where they have greatly enjoyed the last 11 years.

Alan was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He had an unwavering testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ and a deep love for the savior. He served in multiple callings throughout his life including Sunday School President, Ward Clerk, Elders Quorum President and many others. Most recently he served as a church missionary teaching Addiction Recovery Program classes at the Lincoln County Jail in Kemmerer, WY.

Alan’s family wishes to express their thanks to the doctors and nurses at the Huntsman Cancer Institute in Salt Lake City, UT for their loving care of Alan during the last 2 years and particularly that of Dr. Ignacio Garrido-Laguna and his care team. Alan is survived by his sweet wife, Ellen; his children Leddie of Mesquite, NV, Jesse of Ogden, UT, Magda LeAnna of Delta, CO and Megan (J.D.) Belcher of Bountiful UT; his grandchildren Riley, Shaynia, Mikale, Alan and Bradley; his sister Mary Jean, brothers Leon and Delwin (Linda) and many beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Magda and Dellon; his brother, James and his sisters, Patsy and LaVern.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 17, 2021. Services will be held at the Val Verda Stake Center at 2651 S 500 W Bountiful, UT. A viewing will be held at 9:30 AM with the funeral to follow at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at Larkin Mortuary Sunset Lawn at 2350 E 1300 S Salt Lake City, UT.
