On Saturday, August 28, 2004, at the age of 87, Afton June Elkins McCormick completed her life's adventure surrounded by her family at home.
Afton was born June 1, 1917 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Alma and Laura May Widdison Elkins. She graduated from the University of Utah with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education and taught in the Salt Lake School District. She married Ronald A. F. McCormick June 10, 1942 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple, and they soon moved to Kaysville to raise their family. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served in many teaching and leadership positions. She and Ron loved to travel the world together, and were always up for a new adventure. She loved music and, as an accomplished violinist, performed with many ensembles. Her handwork was enjoyed by many friends and family. She was an avid reader, a member of the Kaysville Literary Club, and AAUW. She served as regional president of the American Field Service organization and supported many foreign exchange students in her home. One of her greatest joys was gathering her family together at their cabin at Island Park. She was the ultimate grandmother, attending all the activities of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughters, Linda (Roland) Barker, Perry, UT, Kathie (Bill) Bone, Layton, Connie (Dennis) Borup, Salt Lake City, Claudia (Tom) Miller, Centerville, Callie (Roger) Wilhelmsen, Kaysville; son, Ron (Kay) McCormick, Layton; 17 grandchildren; 18 great-grand-children; and three great-great-grand-children; brother, Wallace Robert Elkins.
