Pooi Kioa, age 57, died on July 24, 2020 in Salt Lake City, Utah, due to complications from kidney failure resulting from high blood pressure. He was born on August 26, 1962 in Nukualofa, Tonga to Viliami Kioa and Pisila Filimoehala Kioa. He married Emeline Alatani in 1980 in Honolulu, Hawaii.
He loved to play his guitar, singing, boxing, spending time with friends, and reading.
He is survived by his sons Amanaki William Kealoha Kioa, Siosiua Pooi (Maori) Pii and Tom Kioa; daughter Elsie; 6 sisters Siukimoana Kioa Sipu, Christina Kioa Sitake, Salote Kioa Latu, Lepolo Tapaita Kioa Havea, Vinola Kioa Mahina, and Luisa Vavahe'a Kioa Faapoi; 3 brothers Amanaki Lelei Kioa, Solomone Ula Kioa, and Sione Filimoehala Kioa; and 10 grandchildren.
Pooi is preceded in death by his parents, Viliami Kioa and Pisila Filimoehala Kioa; sisters Loleini Kioa and Kaufoou Kioa; and daughter Leilani Laaina i-Pangai Kioa.
A staggered viewing will take place Thursday July 30, 2020 at 9:00 AM at Memorial Redwood Mortuary, 6500 South Redwood Road, West Jordan, UT, 84123 with a funeral service to follow at 12:00 PM. In compliance with Salt Lake County’s mandate on facial coverings, face masks are required at all funeral services.
